Sqeeky UMFF
OK. Since I haven't been taking my UMFF apart to wash it and I've been washing it as a whole unit, it had developed a very annoying squeek. I believe it's coming from the elbow. I've checked the frame to be sure it's firmly seated, the elbow, etc. for the same. But can't figure out the exact source or cause. Any ideas???

I put some vaseline on a q-tip and lubed up the elbow. It has like a C-clip on the inside, fixed the problem for me.
or if you can tolerate the smell, a tiny drop of 3-n-1 oil on the elbow stops it and you don't have to remove the elbow to apply it. Smell goes away fairly fast if it doesn't just wash it again and it does.

Thanks - I think I'll try the vasoline first. That wouldn't hurt the silicone if it happened to get on it?

harm silicone? your automobile's engine is most likely put together with a similar silicone in the form of gaskets although the high-temp stuff is used. There it is around engine oil, antifreeze, gasoline etc. and extreme heat and it doesn't seem to bother it.jum001 wrote:Don't petroleum based products harm silicone? I heard somewhere that they do but I am not sure where or if it is true. I would hold off applying anything to the mask until I knew for sure.

I doubt you would even smell any odor from say the 3-n-1 oil, I didn't. My guess is because if the mask is leaking any at that connection the cpap pressure would be pushing any odor or oil "out" of the mask not in.

Julie,
I use a UMff mask & also wash it daily as a whole. I often then place the mask on a dehumidifier unit in the bathroom & after a couple of hours it is completely dry & never seems to cause any problems
But if I don't go through that drying process, what I find repeatedly is a whistle develops & this is when floating water drops catch at the vent holes & cause the noise. All I do is run my fingers over the holes on the outside & that done once almost always removes the whistle.
Just restating: A whistle can develop if any free water drops find their way to the air vent holes.
The fix: While in use just run a finger over the outside of the holes & that seems to force the trapped drops out & the whistle stops.
Alt, I haven't had noise from any other part of my UMff & have had 2 in 2.5 years.
Good luck
