Greetings cpaptalkers!

The highly anticipated and closely guarded Resmed S8 CPAP Machine nears release and we've got your interview! Please post your questions to this thread and we will compile them and pass them to Simon Johnson, Resmed's S8 Product Manager.

We've been eagerly watching the S8's progression for some time. The 420G has definitely found a niche online and now that one of the "big two" CPAP Manufacturers is entering the super small CPAP market niche, competition and innovation should heat up!

Questions regarding the ResMed S8:

- What feature or features of the S8 will set it apart from the major competitors cpap units?

- Does it have some form of expiratory pressure relief?

- What are the dimensions and weight of the new machine?

- Will the machine collect compliance and sleep event data?

- Will it have the ability to collect pulse oximetry data?

- Does the machine have an onboard battery option?

- Are the buttons and display backlit?

- Has the machine been trialed with actual users and if so how many and for how long?

- Does the machine have an auto on/off feature?

1. Does it come with a humidifier?

2. Will it be compatible with non Red-Med masks?

3. Will it have an "auto" model or is it all in one where you can switch back and forth?

4. Can it tell us how we did the next morning?

5. Is it silent?

6. Does the humidifier heat up quicker and stays warm?

7. Is the display panel easier to read than the ones Res-Med has out now?

What I want in a machine is that its an autopap, easy to read, tells me how I did the night before, fits any mask, is silent, the humidifier heats up quicker and stays heated up and that it have a bigger, well lit, easier to read display panel without me having to put on my glasses in the middle of the night.

I guess that is all for now. (Gee, I guess I don't want too much!)

Looking forward to seeing it and hearing more about it.

resmed's website is down. Perhaps their putting on the window dressings for the S8 release.

My questions are:

- Will it still need a Reslink module to collect pulse-oximetry data? If so, will it work with the current Reslink module?

- Will it have a USB port? If not, why not?

- Is the algorithm the same as that of the S7? (rumors are that it is)

Will there be a newer, more friendly version of the Autoscan software?

I agree about the software. The interface looks like it was designed in the 80's. It's a little clumsy to navigate and a touch buggy. I'll hopefully be doing a review of the Autospirit, Reslink & Autoscan software once I have a little more experience with them.

Will it be capable of direct 12 volt operation or will it require an inverter ? How many amps will it draw ?

Will it have the same type of "Hall effect" flow sensor or will it use a pneumotach sensor?

If it is a pneumotach sensor, will the machine be capable of detecting central events?

Will the AHI and Mask Leak data still be accessable from the machine, or will additional software be required?

How many days memory will the machine hold? How about for more detailed data?

Has the algorhythm changed, or will it still use the old A10 algorhythm?

What type of blower will be used? Will it be a turbine to facilitate the small overall size, or will it be a more conventional blower? And if it is a turbine, will a noticible "whine" be present on inspiration similar to the PB GK 420E?

1. Will there be multiple S8 machines with different features? If so, please list their features and expected release dates. Also - are they all going to be named the S8? I read something about "Escape" on the CPAP newsletter - is this the first one?

2. How is the panel lit? Ineffective backlighting is a real annoyance.

3. Whats the warranty policy?

4. Colors?

5. Instead of asking height, weight, etc - can you please list the standard metrics of the machine?

Will the daily info available on the display be available for the whole day, or just for 30 minutes after it is turned off like the current Spirit?

Will the S8 AutoSet employ the same A10 algorithm used by the Spirit and AutoSet T?

How will the S8 AutoSet handle concomitant and non-concomitant hypopneas?

How will the S8 AutoSet handle central apneas?

What algorithmic or other functional enhancements does the S8 have that were not employed by Resmed's previous Spirit?

The S8 is rumored to offer expiratory pressure relief (EPR). If so will this EPR entail a precise water-column EPAP setting or will it entail a "relative" pressure relief?

Will the S8's EPR maintain a constant EPAP throughout the entire expiratory cycle, or is a higher IPAP equivalent pressure achieved toward either the middle or end of expiration?

Is a dedicated titration necessary when running EPR along with fixed pressure?

Can EPR mode be run in tandem with AutoSet mode on the high-end S8 machine?

Is Resmed going to keep the mediatory mask settings, or are you going to work on a more open standard so more masks can be worn successfully?

What is the pressure range of the S8 Classic? Are your new cpap machines going to go past 20cm? The trend seems to be to use higher pressures with straight cpap units.
