Post by Hurricane » Sat Jun 02, 2007 5:36 am

Got a pair of queen size Leggs shaping tights, and want to know how to cut them, like do I cut a ring around the waist area, or do I use the leg, some advice here please, by the way I chickened out buying them, was looking at them in the super market, and saw two woman laughing, so had my wife buy them on her shopping trip.

tights

It is hard to know how to wear pantyhose on your head, isn't it?

What I do is cut off the waistband elastic and toss that away. Then I separate the legs from each other, leaving on the upper part for extra length. There, you have two nice stretchy straps.

I like to sew them in a loop so I don't have to wake up enough to tie them back on if I get up in the night for a trip to the bathroom. However, if you tie them, rested gal suggests the kind of knot that does not make a lump on the back of your head. I use that sometimes, too. It is just a simple knot done an extra time and then tightened. Works amazingly well.

By the way, I like the fishnet hose very well. I found them on sale for $1 at a local store called Meijer. Not sure if they are in your state. The fishnets have more softness and provide some air circulation, or maybe that is all in my imagination. Works for me.

That's a smart way to get extra length to the "leg", Catnapper. Good idea!

I bet they were jealous because they did not have a date lined up with a guy like you.

Use whatever part works for you. If you cut around the hips, that cut piece could possibly be a perfect circle that fits your head. So, don't disregard that as a possible strap.

Like Catnapper, I like to sew my strap ends together so I don't have to tie or have a bulky knot. Once I find the correct/comfortable size, I sew the ends together in as a flat surface.

I have used tights, but currently I'm using straps made from a cotton/spandex t-shirt. I find they are softer, and keep their stretch better. I have several straps made up so I can alternate them and throw them in the washer periodically.

Once you get the hang of the "stretchy strap", all kinds of clothing is looked at as possible mask straps, So tell your wife to start locking her closet.

Stretchy straps

Post by kteague » Sat Jun 02, 2007 6:00 pm

Linda, it's my little granddaughter that better watch her closet. A child's t-shirt might be just the right size to cut in bands with no sewing or tying. Lucky for me my daughter has a t-shirt business so I can just hit the misprint bin for freebies.

Actually, I've been using the stretchy wide headbands for women that are made out of something similar to t-shirt fabric. Already head-sized. Cheap enough and easy, but not nearly as much fun.

Why is it that everytime I read posts about using pantyhose for a chin strap, all I can picture is the two kids from Weird Science with the bras on their heads?

Do the fishnets not leave a diagonal grid pattern on your face? Pada, I would like to see some teeny tiny Pad-a-Cheeks for those marks!! Of course, the cost would probably be about a million dollars, if not more...

Seriously, though, the fishnets are an outstanding summer idea for ties. I never thought of the ventilation factor.

For those new to the forum, here is a link to Catnapper's mask decoration photo, showing her wearing her fishnets as a true celebrity:

A starter knot is done by starting to tie the strap as if it were a shoelace. Instead of passing the strap around once, pass it around twice before pulling the strap taut. Pull on the strap gently if you wish to loosen it. This is an amazingly effective and comfortable way to tie those pantyhose/tights straps.

Best wishes,

Karen

panty hose

Post by Catnapper » Sat Jun 02, 2007 7:14 pm

Rested gal used to have an avatar picture of herself with her head tilted that way. That was a celebrity look-alike category mask. She is indeed a celebrity, at least around here.

No, the fishnets do not leave marks. Not that tight. (Did they leave marks on your legs? I never wore any that way!) The ones I bought are very soft and are easy to keep flat, rather than roll up as I imagine regular hose would. I bought them for the mask contest and ended up using them for straps. Never thought I would wear hose on my head.

You don't need to have the straps tight for the Aura mask. I can't speak for using them with another mask as I have not tried any other. Basically the strap just stabilizes the pillows to your nose. The modified mask is ultra light so it doesn't take much to hold it. It is also very soft. You do need to have the hose over your head in some kind of a hanger since that is the way the mask is made.
