Quattro Leaks

Post by Jefe » Thu May 31, 2007 9:36 am

I have the new Mirage Quattro, and the leaks are killing me. I started out with a F&P 432, and constantly had air blowing down my chin. I had tried a CL2 in my titration study, but woke up with bleeding gums & facial bruises.

So I got a quattro. In the 6 days I've had it, I've had 2 nights without leaks. Always up by the eyes. I've tried adjusting the straps. I've tried the little dial. I've tried pulling it up on my face, or down.

Last night was really bad. I mean nothing I could do would get this thing to stop leaking. When I woke up at 5 (for the 6th time!) I went to the bathroom, and saw puffy eyes, and the forehead rest dug into my forehead so bad it was bruised.

Tonight, I'm going to completely disassmble the thing, and clean it, as that helped a bit last time. I'm also going to back off the forehead strap somewhat.

I am stuck with this mask for 3 months, as my DME only lets you change masks once during each 3 month period, and I already returned the 432 for the quattro. They didn't stock the Hybrid (they dais they had too many bad reviews), and are promising me a Liberty in August if I want one.

Anybody have any ideas to make it stop leaking? I know it's a new mask, so not too many people have one, but it's pretty similar (in my eyes) to a UMFF. Any tips or tricks to stop leaks?

I have had my Quattro about 2 weeks now. I do like it. But I have found I have to snug up the lower strap a little more then I have tp on my Ultra Mirage. Other then that no leaks.. The new forehead adjustment needs to only slightly adjust into the seal. works great

I have a quattro also with about 8 hours total use (4 different attempts) because the only way i can get it to stop leaking is by tightening it until it hurts.

With that said, Barely Used Quattro For Sale. Message if you want it!!!

My limited experience suggests that the leak doesn't always come from where you think it is. When my Quattro was leaking a lot from the elbow I spent hours trying to get it to stop, thinking that it was coming from the eye or cheek areas. Taping the elbow joint with teflon tape eliminated that leak.

I've also found that loosening the top strap helps with leaks that are actually coming from the eye or cheek areas. I now have it just tight enough that there is no slack in the strap and I have found that leaks are much less than before. I was even able to loosen the bottom strap without increasing leaks.

Hope that helps someone....

I guess I am lucky so far.. no leaks at all at elbow and I only have to snug the bottom straps down a little more I do see where others are having problems seems u have the problem or not at the elbow..

However, I bet that tightening the straps until it hurts crushes the seal might try to only snug it up .. I think snoredog gave the method on the Ultra and that is what I follow snugging it only until the leak stops..

I see there is a thread started today about the Liberty having leaks at elbow might be Resmed has a design problem I wonder what or how will they fix or will they even admit to it

Good question about whether they 'fess up. There's no question about whether my Quattro leaks around the elbow. It does. Otherwise a very promising mask.

But from hat i have been reading there are about as many saying it does not leak at the elbow as say it does. Time seems to be in the formula as well. so maybe they wil all leak but mine sure does not I have even twisted it and rocked it. and just with my sleeping it gets jerked etc..

anyway, might be like one other person said.. seems u have aleaker or not..

hey join the crowd!

The only reason I could figure out they allowed that to happen was they were trying to lower their S8 fire risk by having the mask leak so bad it may possibly blow out any flames seen from the machine

Well, last night, I didn't completely disassemble & wash it. I did watch the DVD on fitting, which didn't help.

What I did try was putting it on with a mirror. I loosened all the straps, and tried it that way. I got a great seal all night! I think when I started to leak, I overtightened the straps, and the cushion couldn't inflate properly. I also realized that in the week I've had it, it hasn't leaked 3 nights. Each one of those nights, I had put it on using the mirror. The bathroom is 4 feet from my bed. I'm putting it on in the mirror from now on.

However -- when I had the eye leaks, I checked the elbow. Nothing. I tried to pop off the elbow last night. It was in there so tight, it didn't want to come out without forcing it. I didn't force the issue. Are your elbows easy to pop out, or tight?

So sorry to hear the new mask isn'r working out. Someone posted from another forum that all the new products from resmed may have issues. Don't they back their products for at least the first 30 days?

Regarding the mask leaks and havingf to tighten till it hurts....sometimes the pad-a-cheek type products help that. Have you seen them? They pad the straps so the mask is more comfortable.

The swivel and elbow is another story. I would call resmed customer service and get a replacement.

I've emailed Resmed requesting a replacement swivel. I'll notify you of their, no doubt, swift reply.

I got my Quattro yesterday so just have one night with it. I find it more comfortable than the UMFF, probably because my UM is a size small and the Quattro is XS. I like the adjustable forehead and wider bridge. I also like the exhaust port. My elbow does NOT leak. And the eye leaks are gone, yay!

BUT it is leaking around the lower cheeks. I woke up multiple times feeling/hearing a large leak. I am adjusting it until the hard plastic is digging into my cheek to get it to stop. The straps are not a problem. I know it takes time to adjust it just right, so I am hoping it is user error!

Good luck with the elbow issue, what a pain!

This is what I had done on the upper strap, near the eyes. Turns out backing it off is what helped me. I needed to give the cushion more room to inflate, which sealed it right up.
