PB 420e whistleing noise??

Post by jpu1969 » Sat May 26, 2007 3:14 am

When I first got my 420e I was impressed with how quiet it was running....well a few weeks ago it started to whistle upon my exhale.I have checked the air filter, changed hoses and all are ok and it is not my mask.it is coming from the machine area....anyone else with this problem?

I haven't had the problem, but I have seen others report a whistling coming from the humidifier coupler.

Check this thread.

Mine whistles too, and I've already tried the humidifier coupling.

I thought it was on *inhale*, but I had a really bad night last night (neither of my #$%& masks would seal properly) and so I'm not inclined to go try again. But it's definitely breathing related, in any case.

Mine has an inhale/exhale sound as well. Had it from the beginning. Now it seems quieter (or I'm getting accustomed to it). It has been reported by others.

The easiest fix I have found for machine whistling is to do the following:

Remove the humidifier tank.

GENTLY remove the silicone coupler from the 420.

Make sure the 420 is properly seated on the pins sticking up on the humidifier hotplate.

Place the silicone coupler on the air inlet of the humidifier. The short side of the coupler goes on the humidifier tank.

Place your left hand on the 420, holding it firmly in place and, with your right hand, firmly slide the humidifier (with the coupler attached) into the hotplate of the humidifier base. The coupler will fit onto the air outlet of the 420.

Over the course of removing/installing the humidifier tank (for those of us who dump the water every morning) the coupler can become somewhat unseated. Doing this coupler reinstall seems to make the whistling that I hear go away.
