Can anybody tell me about the type of suregeries that can be performed that will help a "mild" case of sleep apnea and weahter it's worth the risk?

Surgery options are not very good, most folks end up back on CPAP. In addition, after surgery, CPAP is usually harder.

Another thread here.

Most of these topics have been discussed, there is a big search button at the top of the page...

As I said before, if surgery worked, why would we be doing CPAP?

jmarcol, I'm not a doctor (I'm a very satisfied autopap user) but if you're interested in learning more about treatments other than cpap for OSA, the most extensive discussions of various types of surgery, milder invasive procedures like the Pillar procedure, and dental devices to keep the lower jaw held forward during sleep, check out the TAS (talkaboutsleep.com) message board. Do a search on this site and on TAS's site for words like:

TAP (a dental device)
Pillar
MMA (radical surgery to permanently advance the lower jaw)
palate

On the TAS site, look especially for posts by PaulY, Stoboy (nickname might be Sleepy Stoboy), and Seattle Bill

Be sure to check out the "Dental Sleep Medicine" forum on TAS.

And of course do a search for UPPP to see why you probably would NEVER want to have that particular type of surgery.

Good luck.
