Welcome to the forum!

It takes time to get used to all of this. It's just something you get used to. If the sound is bothering you, turn on a fan or some other white noise to mask the sound of the machine. If it's the air blowing in your face, you just have to get used to it.
If you fill in your profile so we can see what equipment you have and describe what the problem is exactly, we can help you better.

What pressure are you at?

If the intial pressure that the doctor set you at is too over powering to get to sleep on. Does your machine have a ramp button to gradually get up to the prescribed pressure. It usually helps intially until you get used to the pressure.

Also if you can. You might want to try to wear the mask and use the machine during the day if you are reading a book or watching tv, to try to help you get used to the pressure as well. That is what helped me during the intial trial on cpap.

Stick with it, it took me awhile to get used to having something on my face as I slept, but now I can't imagine not having my mask. It was a life changing experience for me!

Click on the yellow light bulb above if you have any question there are a lot of great tips in there. If that won't answer your questions, always feel free to post anything on the board. We are here to help, we were all in your shoes at one time.

Good Luck

New to CPAP

I have been on the hose for over 4 months now and I still haven't been able to make it all night without waking up and readjusting my mask and going to the bathroom. It is gradually getting better since I noticed the mask doesn't bother me and I can't feel the pressure (10 CM) at all. Fact sometimes I think the hose is disconnected until I wake up and pull the mask away from my fact to see if there is pressure. Yep! it's there...I have become so used to it I don't notice it at all.

I like using my machine on CPAP most. I use it on APAP about every two weeks for a night or two just to see how I am reacting.

You will find it becomes much easier as time goes on and well worth the effort to stick with the treatment, even if you just nap, use the machine.
Good breathing and happy sleep. jim

Welcome to the club, although not a club that many want to join. The good news is our condition is treatable.

You will find tons of information on this site, and the folks here are very willing to help you.

My advice is to keep the mask on every night. It took me awhile to get used to it (in fact I'm still in the adjustment phase). I just tried to wear it a little longer each night until i was wearing it all night every night.

I see that you have a full face - I'm sure that is hard to get used to. I selected the nose pillow "mask". I don't know how many masks you tried or if you are stuck with a full face, but work with your sleep doc / equipment provider to find a mask that you can tolerate. I had to add a chin strap to keep my mouth closed so that I could keep using a non-full face mask.

Hang in there, and keep asking questions. We are here to help!

Well, its a bit confusing as to just what equipment you are using. You indicate a Resmed S8 Compact which has no data capabilities other than compliance and then you indicate you have the AutoScan software and reader cable which are of no value unless you have a Resmed S8 Elite or above.

If you have the Elite or above then your machine has EPR (expiration pressure relief) which could help you adjust to your set pressure. The most relief if granted at 3 and the least relief is granted at 1.

I'm not even sure if the S8 Compact has the Ramp feature or not. Ramp can also help adjusting to your pressure.

Alpha's suggestion that you wear your mask with your machine on at times thru out the day when you watch TV or are reading a book, whatever occupies your mind a bit so you aren't focusing completely on the mask and pressure.

Check which machine it is that you really have and make sure that you've indicated the correct mask too then maybe we can be of more assistance.
