Why does this board keep logging me out?

Post by goober » Fri May 18, 2007 10:50 am

I am having terrible trouble with this board. I log in and I immediately get another page offering to let me log in. Or I'll be logged in and doing something like composing a response to a PM and when I go to post it, Voila' , it disappears because I am not logged in anymore. I have experienced this on 2 different computers. Any idea what's goin on? Thanks.

I think you can tell registration to remember you. I automatically log in every time because it "remembers"me.

No actually, it's a company computer. I think the security settings on it (which I cannot change) do not allow it to even accept cookies. I think you are right though, that may be the problem. Thanks.

I've always had the same log-on problems as mentioned above. I've come to the conclusion that it's simply a "cheap forum software package" problem.

Quality of software is not directly related to its price. See lots of things made by Microsoft. Clear your cookies, then log in with the remember me checkbox checked. You should be fine.

GREAT POINT on MS software!!!!

I deal with an IMAC & Linux and MS junque I find my identity disappears when the cookies get outdated or deleted!!!

Gerald

as blarg said it has nothing to do with "cheap" software. And hard to beliebe maybe but .. the problem most likely is at your end. If a computer is set ot if the cookie is cleared the forum software has zero idea who you are. Just go to profile as somewhere in there you have a setting to remember you .. if you still have problems then check your security settings on your computer to make sure it allows the cookie to be stored. Many setting are there to prevent unauthorized cookies or tracking methods to be installed on your computer and that setting will need to be changed... Those on a company computer I would doubt ever get to change the save cookie setting and the system will never know who you are..

I use Window Washer, it has a Cookie Keeper, you can delete your cookies and have it keep some like your forums and things you really use.

(You remove cookies to speed up IE and try to prevent it from choking)

After clearing your cookies, go to the site, Log-In, Log-In again and mark remember me. Just like voting on polls, it seems to have to be done twice to be successful.

Then is you have Windows Washer, go to cookie keeper and have it protect the new cookies from the site.

As far as a company computer, you may not have the "Rights" to store cookies. Jim

I have OS X. When I want to delete cookies, I delete them. Safari has the list you mention built in, and you can axe individual ones, or clear them all. Up to you.

No reason to install 3rd party stuff.

That explains why I have 54 programs that I use daily. I have to keep after things to keep the speed up. Jim

I download files 24/7, to maintain my download rate, I dump cookies every 2 hours.

And people say Macs are expensive. lol.

My favorite though is "Oh, so that means you don't know how to use a computer?" "No, it means I don't have to know how."

Alright, time for me to go get another sip of that kool-aid.
