1) I have a RESMED Mirage Activa Mask. It seems pretty comfortable and I can't feel any leaks on my face. However, there are tiny holes in vent cover that leak air out. Just curious why that is. It must be purposeful...
2) I had a hard time getting to sleep the first night. I ended up dropping a couple Lunesta to finally get to sleep. I did keep the mask on the whole night, but of course I'm kind of tired today. Not sure if it's the lack of a full 8 hours (which is what I usually need), the Lunesta (which always give a little hangover), or the therapy isn't quite working yet.
Just curious if other new users had similar experiences.
Thanks!
First Night on CPAP - Questions
The extra holes provide an "exhaust" stream.. Without them you would be re-breathing the same air, which would get low on oxygen after a short time.
After my first night my body only felt "confused", not sure what had happened. Now after two weeks, I'm feeling much better, but still a bit tired. I have a lot of catching up to do.
Welcome Aboard! Keep up the therapy, it may take a few days for you to notice the results.

It keeps the mask from getting launched off your face when you breath out. Seriously, whatever air you don't breath in and all the air you breath out has to go somewhere. It goes out through those holes.InSearchofSlumber wrote:1) I have a RESMED Mirage Activa Mask. It seems pretty comfortable and I can't feel any leaks on my face. Thanks for the informative reply. I figured as much, but it's always good to get information from people with more experience.LyleHaze wrote:The extra holes provide an "exhaust" stream.. Without them you would be re-breathing the same air, which would get low on oxygen after a short time.

Thanks again!
You need to fill in you profile and your pressure at the top of the page, so we can be more informed about you. Also two Lunesta , is that more than prescribed? And are you using a nasal mask, if so you could be mouthbreathing, and losing your treatment out of your mouth, tape and or a FF Mask can correct that. Jim

Give yourself time to adjust to wearing any kind of mask. I'm closing in on two months and I find that I need to use the ramp feature to get to sleep. You are going to be painfully aware of everything at first and that interferes with sleep. You'll be adjusting things for the first week or two and then suddenly you will not be able to sleep without it.
