Snores and Encore Pro Software

Post by jrfoster » Thu May 10, 2007 5:30 pm

Last night my AHI was 2.2 but my snore index was 88.3 with 737 total snores! Can that happen when the hose rubs against the head board as I toss and turn during the night? I have never seen the snores so high.

But with only 5 obstructive apneas, and 13 hypopneas I am not concerned about the snores. Or should I be?

Jeff in TN

Snores

Post by bgalb » Thu May 10, 2007 6:25 pm

It it was me, I wouldn't worry about it. Of course, my ResMed software doesn't log snores. If it keeps happening, then I would be curious enough to find out why it is happening. Snoring isn't necessarily diagnostic of an apnea event, but it IS an indicator.

Jeff,

I wouldn't be.....from the standpoint of just "snoring". It might depend on what range or pressure your Auto is set to and how the snoring might drive up the pressure if in Auto mode.

Den

(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

Den,

I did not have it in 'auto' last night but set it at 10cm straight cpap with clflex of 2. My sleep study last year said 10 was the magic number, so I went back to it. AHI was not bad, but those snores on the read out went crazy! Thanks

Jeff

With a snore index of 88.3......you're a "lightweight"
In the first months of my therapy, I got into the "hundreds"......but still had a monthly average AHI of less than 1.0.
Last year I started playing around with my settings and found that only one or two more centimeters cut the snoring big time.
Most nights, I'm now in the 2.0, 1.0 or less than 1.0 range. Once in awhile it'll take a jump to 10 or 30, but it's rare (and usually during a higher leakage period).

As long as your AHI looks good, I wouldn't worry about the snoring.

If it "bothers" you, you might try a bit higher pressure and see what it does. Making sure your nasal passages are clear before going to bed also makes a lot of difference. A little bit of congestion can go a long ways in enhancing the sound effects.

Best wishes,

Den
