Started Drooling with CPAP. Why?

Post by aeroscout17 » Fri May 04, 2007 8:19 am

I have been on CPAP for about three weeks now. About the last week I have woke up in the morning with a bit of drool on the side of my face. When I was younger I used to drool all the time when I was sleeping but haven't done that in years.

Any hypotheses on why this might be happening? I'm fairly sure I am not mouth breathing as I never have (except when stopped up). I am guessing either the extra humidity from the humidifier or I am sleeping so soundly that I am not noticing when it happens until the alarm goes off.

Any other thoughts?

What kind'a leak rate are you getting?
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Don't know yet. I am switching to a machine that will be software capable soon so I can monitor it. My current machine doesn't show that. The only leakage I have noticed is occasional around the "simple pillow" and it usually wakes me and I fix it. Think I have finally got it adjusted so I don't have any problems there; at least I haven't the last few nights.

Again, I am pretty sure I am not mouth breathing. Anytime I have done that in the past (stopped up nose) I always wake with a temporary sore throat.

One thing you can do is to put a strip of papertape vertically over your lips. Use chapstick on your lips and the tape sticks only to the skin under your nose and under your lips.

It keeps me from slobbering.

You may not be mouth breathing. It may just be little leaks from the mouth. Still not a good thing. You can try taping like Linda3032 said. Here are Roosters instructions for taping; viewtopic.php?t=9653&start=0

My little piece of vertical tape is just to help keep my lips closed to prevent slobbering. It's not complete mouth taping to prevent air leakage.

I found I was able to slobber without air leaking from my open mouth.
