Any Oximetry experts on list?

Post by meister » Thu May 03, 2007 12:05 pm

My Doctor performed a 2 night Oximetry study on me.
He used a FingerPrint Sleep Oximeter device as described at:

http://www.smiths-medical.com/catalog/s ... -held.html

Here are the results from the first night:

Total Sample Time: 07:03:40
Lowest SpO2 80%
occured at 01:41:48 into study

High PR 98bpm
Low PR 58bpm
Avg SpO2 94%
SpO2 STD 1%

SpO2 Range % Time
95-99 42.5
90-94 56.4
85-89 0.8
80-84 0.0

%SpO2 Duration (hh:mm:ss)

Total duration below 88% 00:02:40

Longest single event with SpO2 below 88% 00:00:32
started at 03:42:04 into study

Here are the results from the second night:

Total Sample Time: 07:12:48
Lowest SpO2 85%
occured at 00:07:36 into study

High PR 92bpm
Low PR 60bpm
Avg SpO2 94%
SpO2 STD 1%

SpO2 Range % Time
95-99 34.5
90-94 65.2

So are there any experts on the list who can tell me
if I am normal for a 6' 2", 250 pound, white balding, male?

Meister,

I'm not an expert, just someone who happens to own an oximeter and gotten to look at some data. Below 88% is apparently considered a significant event. The fact that you spent over three and a half minutes at that low saturation level would go along with uncorrected apnea(s) during that time.

If I were you I'd sure want to stop that from happening.

Regards,
Bill

When I did my last sleep study (CPAP only - couple of months back). They started me off on 8CMS then cranked it up in the middle of the night to 12.

I had no real AI score but did have a noticable HI score. When I asked why they upped the CMS the sleep lab person said that my SpO2 was starting to drop below 90 & they just kept cranking up the CMS until my SpO2 stayed over 90. My own nightly monitoring has it at 94-96 with periods at 97.

So if I had a score like you have, I would be wondering if my CMS was high enough.

The periods shown don't seem particularly bad, but it seems that any time below 88% should be avoided if possible.
