Post by gster » Thu May 03, 2007 5:55 am

smelly tank. lately my water chamber has been generating a stench. vinageer and water gets rid of it but the stench comes back. it actually woke me up as i was breathing. anyone else experience this. i have a new tank and no problems.

What type of water are you using? I've used distilled water since I've been on cpap and have not had a single problem with deposits or growths in my humidifier tank. Tap water will definitely foul your tank.

Try soaking the tank with some baking soda and water. It might help to set it out in the sun for a few hours while it soaks.

Are you by chance letting the tank go dry?

That happened to me once with my S8 machine and it got a strong amonia smell to it that woke me up. I rinsed it out real good and it took a day or two for it to completely go away. No problem afterwards as I did not allow the water to go dry again.

i use distilled water, but an off brand. maybe i will start using poland springs again.

never runs dry, never.

i wash with dove soap and water and weekly use vinagear and water and let it soak.

plastic is cloudy now if that means anything.

i change the filter on machine regularly.

baking soda and water, i ain't making bread! he-he.

it is like someone hooked hose up to the exhaust pipe of a car while it is running. i am serious.

Have you checked to see if your machine is on the ResMed recall list?

you guys and gals are on the ball. i did yesterday and it is not.

i was thinking: why bother to wash the chamber if there is only water in it. why can't i use some type of sanitizer. i hate to say this, and it is probably stupid, but why can't i use a feminine product in it. i hope i don't offend anyone.

Just remember what's in your tank, is up your nose, I only want clean moist air up mine. Jim

I never wash my tank, I rinse it with tap water (clorine) and fill it with distilled water when it gets low or smells stale (3 Days) no heat on.
