One year in
Last night was one year on xPAP for me. My AHI for the past month has been about 1.4 and has remained below 5 the entire time. I feel better than I did a year ago, and my wife and kids no longer have to live with a constant grump (although I am told that at times I still am one). Without the help from this board, I would not have done it. I do not post much, but still find myself checking the board at least a couple times a week. Thank you to everyone.

"How long till you felt better? Has there been weight loss, improvement of blood pressuer, cholesterol and other measurements of health? Please let us know"
It took a few months (between four and six) for me to actually notice a change, but my wife immediately noticed I was no longer snoring and my kids commented that I was not grumpy all the time about four months into it. That actually made me realize it was working, even though I did not necessarily feel like it was. The other thing that made me realize how effective the xpap was for me was going away for the weekend and forgetting one of the power cords. I slept (helped greatly by the amount of bourbon I drank that weekend, a reunion), but was actually looking forward to being on the machine again at the end of the weekend.
I have lost about fifteen pounds, but that is since January when I started to walk stairs in my office building at lunch time (started out only being able to go from the first floor to the top, nine floors, about three times in 20 minutes and now I go up and down 8 times in 30 minutes). I also bought an xvest weight vest last month, and that has definitely made a difference in the intensity of the stairs. I put in the 12 pounds I had lost up to that point and it really hit home for me how much excess weight I actually was/am carrying around. My goal is to lose a total of 30 pounds by January 08 to get down to 250, which my doctor has said would be a good weight for me (the BMI charts say that I should weigh less than 200 pounds, but I have not been under 200 since I was 16 and I was skinny as a rail back then. Plus, my doctor said as far as she was concerned BMI does not take into account frame size so it is at best one tool for consideration and not the end all. She gave me an example of Michael Jordan, stating that under the BMI charts he would likely be considered overweight/obese given his height and weight even though his body fat is so low (muscle weighs more than fat)).

My blood pressure has always been borderline, but has trended lower especially over the past four months. The only reason I am not on BP meds is that I keep track of it on a daily basis (white coat hypertension, doctors and their offices just make me nervous). As for cholesterol, fortunately, that has always been acceptable to my doctor.
