Masks similar to Comfort Curve?

Post by kasey » Mon Apr 23, 2007 8:04 pm

I ready for a change in masks. I know this because I always change masks after it's caused some kind of facial feature impairment. Eg., the Comfort Gel caused me to furrow my brows - I still have the deep creases; and after using the Comfort Curve for over year it has indented my cheeks.

I'd like a mask with nasal cushion similar to the Comfort Curve's but without the inflexible cheek plastic. The OptiLife Nasal Pillows looks good, but I don't think I'll like the nasal prongs. (The only other nasal prong mask I used was the Adam Circuit and I thought it was going to tear my nares; it hurt so much.)

I've searched this site and cpap.com, but didn't find what I think I'm looking for. I would appreciate any and all suggestions? Thanks.

Kasey

Ahhh, the famous comfort curve slabs.

Have you tried the pantyliner fix?

Tried pantiliners, moleskin, etc. Finally settled on little oval-shapped felt booties I made with elastic thread sewn around the edge. Pads are comfortable now, except for the edges that press into my cheeks if I'm sleeping on my side (which I do often).

Personally I'd say to give nasal pillows another try since you side sleep. Particularly the Twilight NP has very soft pillows which don't get dislodged at all when you side sleep.

kasey.... I don't think there is a mask similar to the ComfortCurve. I asked the same question a few months ago and was told there was not. And I have not been able to find one. I'll make a deal with you, though. If I find one, I'll let you know if you do the same for me.

blarg - thanks for the suggestion. I'll wait on trying the Twilight as it only comes in medium and large. I usually use a petite or small, so it will likely cause similar problems to the Adam Circuit I tried.

Bamalady - You got a deal. I went back, found and read your earlier post. I once tried to heat mold the plastic on an older Comfort Curve with disasterous results. It was an expensive experiment. I'm next going to try removing the clips and reroute the head strap using the shoestring, figure-eight modification I saw elsewhere. Yes, CCII would be nice!

Good luck with your 'fix'! Let us know how it goes.

I would love to see the Opus modified to take the CC nose cushion.

Kasey, I've been using a "custom" Pad a Cheek that can cover the Comfort Curve cheek pads. I've been using my PAC instead of the CC the cheek pad.

Bamalady, I couldn't agree with you more about wanting an Opus with the Comfort Curve cushion.

Well, I just wrote to them to ask if they would consider a modification of the Opus. I figured all they could do is not respond or tell me 'NO'. We'll see.

Perhaps we should ask Respironics to add some of the opus features to the comfort curve.

Hey Greyhound.......Why not go ahead and write to them? We won't know if they will be responsive or not until we ask. And as they say, there is strength in numbers.

Oh, and I should have said that it is not just the headgear that bothers me. I also have a problem with the barrel. It is too long, and I break the seal when I turn over. That is the reason I think it would be better to fit the cushion to the Opus.

I like this idea a lot... if my Comfortcurve trial goes south, I may try to figure out how to make the cushion work with the Opus frame. Provided I can get an Opus frame somewhere -- maybe on the mask roulette thread.
