Flying in Europe/England w/CPAP

Post by sanctacaris » Sun Apr 22, 2007 11:55 pm

I'm going to be flying to England and Italy in a few days and am wondering if anyone knows if the UK and EU treat CPAPs the same way as the US when calculating one's carry-on luggage allowance. In the US, CPAPs are exempted from carry-on luggage restrictions, so you can carry your CPAP plus your usual limit. Is this true in Europe as well? If so, can anyone point me in the direction of some sort of official policy statement equivalent to the TSA's website?

Thanks!

You should check with each individual airline you intend to be travel on about their specific position on this. Major carriers are likely to be more accommodating than low cost carriers.

In most cases you should be OK if they know in advance, but if you just show up with no advance warning that you want to carry on an extra item, you may not get the response you are looking for.

Also be aware that individual airports in Europe may have different local regulations which are more restrictive that "normal" (whatever that is).

Cheers,

Bill

Whenever I travel I prefer to just carry on my cpap and one max sized carry on bag. This way I don't end up having to deal with any particular drama, regardless of regulations or rules.

Last year, I had no problems carrying my cpap and a seperate backpack on board a trip to France.

I've had no problems in France, but as far as I know the UK is still strict about their one carryon policy and they make no exceptions for CPAP equipment regardless of airline or airport (as reported to me by CPAP users who have traveled through there).

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like I should plan to carry just the CPAP for my London-Venice flight. That shouldn't be too bad.
