high altitude adjustment

Post by vicchap1 » Fri Apr 20, 2007 11:50 pm

What will happen if I don't set the correct altitude in my machine? I see it has three setting for this. It is very hard to know what this is when i travel.

Thanks in advance for the help.

You may not receive your optimal pressure at higher elevations, but this usually is not a problem unless you travel above 3500 feet.

Altitude adjustment?

Post by ufo13 » Sat Apr 21, 2007 11:41 am

vicchap1:

You may have been given some mis-information on your question! It is my understanding that most machines of recent vintage automatically adjust for changes in altitude up to a stated elevation! If there are 3 settings on your machine, the range of manual adjustments should be stated in your manual or check the manufacturers website. On my machine the ResMed S8 vantage the manual states on page 34: Altitude changes: Your S8 Autoset Vantage automatically adjusts to changes in altitude up to 8500'. I think that most of the Respironics machines (I had the remstar-Auto-Tank) also had an automatic adjustment, but I no longer have a Respironics machine, so maybe Den (wulfman) or one of the other forum members with these machines can add to the information you need! I do know that I have used the S8 vantage, the Remstar auto (tank), and the PB 420G in elevations of 8000' to 10,500' Cheyenne, WY, Park City, UT etc with nary a problem or adjustment!

Hope this helps,

Steve,

Most of the lowest end machines still rely on manual altitude changes.
This one doesn't have C-FLex, either.

I'm not sure what the M Series settings are, but this is from the (previous models) REMstar Plus settings:

Elevation Setting
a. The elevation setting and symbol will be displayed.
The patient also has access to this setting in the Patient Setup Menu.
Lo = less than 2,500 ft. (<762 m.)
M = 2,500 to 5,000 ft. (762 m. to 1524 m.)
Hi = 5,000 to 7,500 ft. (1525 m. to 2286 m.)
