Mouth taping help with jaw drop and mouth breathing?
I have been suffering from higher-than-normal leaks for the last few weeks. I have looked at OSCAR data and noticed my jaw is stable and leaks are below redline the first 2 hours of sleep, sometimes shorter and sometimes longer. What happens is as I toss and turn and get into deeper sleep, my jaw drops, I begin to mouth breathe, and leaks are spiking. I have tried chin straps and cervical collars, but they seem to be restraining and affect my TMJ. I currently use a hybrid mask (Resmed Airfit F40 which is under the nose ) . Does anyone have experience with mouth taping that has helped? What brand and type are you using? I appreciate the help. I have attached a recent OSCAR chart to illustrate my point.

Absolutely. Gramps and I have both been mouth-taping for years. How many words can you make with 7 letters?
The brand we used has been weeded out of its manufacturer's product line.

I currently use two tape brands: CKeep Kinesiology Tape and Cover-Roll Stretch tape. I find both work very well if I shave at least every other day as long beard stubble tends to allow the tape to loosen during the night. I also find it helps to clean skin oils off from my around my mouth with a CPAP cleaning wipe before applying the tape. Both tapes are available from Amazon.
An important tip is to fold one corner of the tape over slightly in case you need to immediately remove the tape. That happened to me the other night when I suddenly had to sneeze.
If cost is a factor, the cheapest option I've found so far is 3M Micropore tape but it is narrow so you may want to use two strips. It is not as effective for me as CKeep or Cover-Roll stretch.

How are these for removal in the morning? I tried PAP MD. It sealed my mouth well all night. However, in the morning, it almost pulled my face off during removal. I don't think wetting it before removal would help because the adhesive is not water-soluble. How do you remove Cover-Roll?
I just sneeze through my nose with my mouth tightly sealed. It happened again, twice this morning.

Removing Cover-Roll Stretch is not for the faint of heart, it's really tough to peel off. I find CKeep Kinesiology tape easier to remove and it seems to work just as well as Cover-Roll Stretch for about the same price. I'm keeping the Cover-Roll Stretch around for a backup but not looking forward to the day I have to use it again. The next time I use Cover_Roll I might try to trim it down so it's not as wide and not use so long a piece. It sticks so well I might be able to get by using less tape which will hopefully make it easier to remove.
