Has anyone figured out how to make an AirSense 11 stop popping with every breath?

My AirSense 11 is making me crazy! I called Resmed, they sent me to my equipment supplier, my supplier said yeh, they do that!

So far I’ve replaced the tank, I’ve removed and cleaned the outlet seal, I’ve cleaned the mating surfaces in front of the tank, and I’ve cleaned the hose. I’m waking up 2-3 times a night, pulling the tank loose, and putting it back in. Sometimes that fixes it for the night, mostly not. If I push down on the top of the tank, it usually stops clicking, but that doesn’t seem to work as well as pulling the tank loose.

I’m really frustrated with this thing! Any suggestions?

Hmm. I never had experience with a AirSense 11 as I have a 10 currently. I suppose you could change out parts. I have really have no idea.

I also have an AirSense 10 and it works great. It uses a lot less water and it doesn’t make that noise. I currently use that unit as my traveling in-unit.

As an update, and this is very preliminary, I put a rubber band around the water tank way out on the end away from the heater pad. I figured if I can squeeze the tank while in operation and the popping stops, that may be where the pop is coming from.

After night 1 with the rubber band, two times last night I heard 1 single pop, and honestly, I slept better. Tonight I have 2 rubber bands around the tank. This tank isn’t very old, and I actually swapped the tank because of the pop.

Here’s what I think is happening. When I slam my tank in, it tightly clamps the two halves of the tank down, you can’t squeeze it and get any flex. Over the evening either air pressure, especially if I sneeze, the tank backs out ever so slightly. This allows the slightest spring in the tank gasket that you can notice when you squeeze the two halves of the tank. Breathing in and out may be pressuring and then depressurizing the tank. As the tank pressure drops, the machine ramps up and inflates the tank making a pop. If I’m correct, with 2 rubber banks installed, I should have zero pops tonight. I will update soon.

2 nights in and no more popping! My rubber band trick seems to be working! It has to be the 2 halves of the tank popping as the pressure changes.

I have used a Yuwell CPAP for a while and I experience poppings especially in the morning, they are so disruptive of my sleep that I ceased using the machine for a while. I have gone to my sleep doctor who did not solve the problem and just said that the machine was working well, which it does not.
I am intrigued by the fact that this problem could be caused by the tank. Actually my Yuwell looks very similar to the Resmed shown in the picture. So I will try the solution suggested and then post an update on the results.

Wrapping the water tank with some tape seems to have solved the popping problem that has bothered me for so many months! I sincerely thank the person who has found out this simple and effective solution. Anyway I will go to the seller of my machine and pretend that he changes it since it is obviously faulty.

Water (condensation from the humidifier) can cause a popping sound when it builds up in the hose. Do you need some tips on how to prevent this? (It's called rainout.)

I don't put water in the water tank. When I did it it popped in the morning. I then put the machine on the floor and it stopped, but it continued to pop from time to time and now that I have seen the post by the guy who had the same problem and realized that it was caused by the tank I have adopted the same solution with good results.

The ResMed AirSense 11 side cover (part number 39226, priced around $18.40) replaces the water chamber to let you run your machine without humidification. It automatically disables the heater, reduces bulk for travel, and keeps dust out of the internal port.

When traveling, I like that my machine is smaller.

Why can't everyone just do whatever they want?

The humidifier water tank is included with the machine at no incremental cost.
The optional side cover must be purchased for ~$20 USD.
When switching between humidified and non-humidified therapy, such as when travelling, you can do both with the humidifier tank without having to carry a side cover with you too.
There's no difference in therapy efficacy or experience when either are used with humidification disabled in the machine settings.
The side cover shortens the Air10 length by 20% (2" or 55mm) and the Air11 length by a mere 9% (0.9" or 23mm.)

I have a side cover for my Air10, which I sometimes use on long-haul flights where available space to set up my machine is limited and humidifier use is discouraged due to the possibility of air turbulence etc. while I'm sleeping. Sure, the slightly smaller machine footprint is more convenient in that situation. But it's not exactly a game-changer. <shrugs>

I had the same problem with the and I thought there was a leak someplace. Then my regular internist ask me where the aircraft 11 is in proximity to my head and I told him it was behind me on a shelf that's about 6 inches above my head. He said in the directions right in the beginning it says make sure your device is below your head and I should put it on a night table. Since then I never had another problem with the popping And I fill the water compartment full every night.
