Mold in Resmed F20 elbow.

Post by Kris Persson » Wed Jan 28, 2026 7:01 am

There seems to be dirt or mold inside my F20 standard elbow.
Is there any way to reach this area for cleaning?
The white plastic tube seems to be pressed on and can't be removed?

I'd be soaking that in 100% white vinegar and then use a strong stream of water to remove that mess. Do you have a Water Pic? That would blast that crap out for sure.

What's your cleaning regimen?

These elbows can be purchased separately on line.

I know that but I would try to clean it first.

I have tried vinegar, ultra sonic cleaning and strong water stream. Nothing helps.
It seems that the water stream just can't reach that area with force.

LOL, just replace it already. It's an inexpensive consumable item.

If you've got mold there, it's also likely that you also have additional mold cheerfully growing in the tiny inaccessible holes in the exhaust diffuser shown in the background too. (Those little holes that necessarily must remain clean and and open in order for respiratory exhalation and excess PAP exhaust air to exit the mask.)

It's also worth noting that the elbow shown in your photo is the older AirFit F20 Elbow design anyway, which is much noisier in operation than the newer and quieter AirFit F20 QuietAir Elbow design released in 2018.

Either are only $20 USD and are readily available online from a variety of sources.

In the future the best way to prevent mold from growing in the replacement elbow, and in your hose too, is to clean them frequently with mild soap and water.

I'll ask again, What's your cleaning regimen?

In case you don't understand, a cpap cleaning regimen is what you do routinely to clean your cpap gear. If you do nothing routinely then you don't have a cleaning regimen.

That mess in the elbow should have been delt with long ago, one way or another.
