hi all,
Just got my device yesterday, I did not connect it to my own wifi network. yet, after a few minutes, the screen says that it's been updated.
Does it have independent wire connection and will connect to an unknown connection and share my data either with the manufacturer or different healthcare providers without my consent? I was under the impression that over-the-air updates are only possible if you connect to your own network.
thanks in advance!
Airsense 11 autoset wireless concerns
Re: Airsense 11 autoset wireless concerns
You were wrong. These machines don't/won't ever connect to a home internet network. These machines will get their updates or transmit data even if you didn't have internet.
It's all done over the cellular data network. Used to be ResMed used T Mobile cellular but I don't remember if they are still using TMobile or if they changed to a different cellular provider. Doesn't really matter...you have zero control over it except you can use airplane mode to prevent any data transmission or updates.

You're new device should have arrived with a user manual. If not, you can easily download it online here.
It contains useful information, such as:
It contains useful information, such as:
The device is equipped with cellular communication that allows your sleep therapy data to be wirelessly transmitted to your care provider. It also allows for prescribed settings to be applied or updated.
Transfer of data will occur after therapy has stopped. Leave your device connected to the power outlet at all times and make sure it is not in Airplane Mode. Data will only be transferred if a wireless connection is available.
Within the wireless network, the availability and quality of the network may be affected by terrain, buildings, and the weather. Wireless communication depends on network availability. Coverage is not available everywhere and varies by service.

Thank you, Pugsy, for confirming that it autoconnects on its own without using my home network. Maybe that's part of why there is "autoset" in its name. i don't like that. i may just use airplane mode most of the time then. Still, once in a while, i will need to let the machine connect to update the software and at that time, the machine will just transfer all the personal data to them. this is an invasion of privacy, not to mention a security risk in case of a data leak. your name is connected to the serial # when you purchase. so the data is not anonymous.Pugsy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 27, 2026 11:04 amYou were wrong. It can't be connected to WiFi
It will connect to cellular, this is documented in the user manualDoes it have independent wire connection and will connect to an unknown connection
Your consent was implicitly granted when you started using it without reading the documentation and learning how it behaved...share my data either with the manufacturer or different healthcare providers without my consent?

No, the name AutoSet is because Auto-Titrating CPAPs are capable of Auto-Setting the pressureMaybe that's part of why there is "autoset" in its name
And then the second you turn off Airplane mode, it will upload all your data. This can be prevented, but it's not necessarily easy or intuitivei may just use airplane mode most of the time
No it's not, especially when it's behavior is explain, you can turn it off, and you consented. If it were, HIPAA would have forced ResMed to discontinue their practice (in the USA) years agothis is an invasion of privacy
We can't have Sandworm learning that your AHI, is now less than 5not to mention a security risk in case of a data leak
While technically true (sometimes), practically no.your name is connected to the serial # when you purchase. so the data is not anonymous.
I can guarentee that ResMed is completely unaware of who is using my machine. And I don't give a shit if they did.
