Increase in AHI; OSCAR says CA and Cheyne-Stokes

Post by lindsayschach » Sat Dec 27, 2025 8:12 pm

I'm a 74 YO female who has been using a CPAP for about 10 years, successfully. But recently, my AHI has increased significantly.

Here's an OSCAR data set from last night.

What's going on? Am I really having that many CA apneas? And Cheney-Stokes respirations?

How do I address this? Yes, I'm tired ...

What meds do you take?

Can you zoom in on the time frame from about 03:20 to 3:35? Need to see those flagged Centrals up close.

Remove/hide the calendar please.

I was on the same machine for the first 8 years, then I switched to the For Her version last year.

I'll try to zoom in. I couldn't figure out how to hide the calendar.

Thanks,

Lindsay

Contact your physician, tell them about the flu and your tiredness, This breathing pattern doesn't look like regular restless sleep and should not be ignored. At your age the flu can have further consequences - including impacting the heart. Don't wait. I'm not a physician, and I may be wrong. Get a professional to examine you thoroughly.

G'day Linsday.

Yes, that definitely looks like genuine central apnea and CSR. Off to the doctor you go - this needs to be sorted. In the meantime, you could try adjusting the pressure - as a first guess, I'd set the machine to CPAP mode (not automatic) with a fixed pressure of 7.0, and turn EPR off. Post an updated chart and we'll see how things stand. It's also a good idea to post a chart of a typical night before the CA started showing up (did it correspond with changing machines?)

To turn off the calendar, press {F9}.

Thanks for your insight and advice. I sent a message to my doctor and I'll see how she responds.

Where are you living now? Did you spend time in the flatlands then go back to 8000 feet?

I'm at home in Berkeley, CA. I was on a week-long retreat in Colorado.

Is the OSCAR data from at home or from Colorado?

The OSCAR data is from home, 900 feet of elevation.

People sometime develop that respiratory in response to lower oxygen levels in heights they are not used to. It's an immediate response to the thinner atmosphere, not one that will appear with a delay when you're back at 900 ft.
