Hi folks! I'm a long term cpap user, since 2005 when this forum really saved my life. I've been clipping right along until I got the Resmed Airsense 11. Now, I wake up at night with an extremely dry mouth, usually after I've gone into a very deep sleep. Then I can't go back to sleep. It's pretty bad..in fact, I 'm in bad shape right now from lack of sleep. I'm a nose breather, using the airfit p30i.
I tried turning the humidity settings up but ended up waking up due to rain out, drag. I don't know what to do. I have a partner, asked him if I was snoring. Nope. I don't know if somehow my mouth is being forced open due to the autopap nature of the machine or what it is. I may have to go back to the 10, but I'd like to keep this one. I like that it is quieter, and more compact. But really, no sleep in a week now. It's self defeating.
Anyone know what's going on? After almost 20 years of cpap therapy, I'm so frustrated to find myself in this sleep deprived position.
Also, I was using a swift mask till recently. I like this new airfit so much better, it feels very secure. The sleep I go into is really deep, I can feel it. That is why it is so disappointing to abruptly wake up after a few minutes in that deep sleep state with a mouth that feels like it is about to crack open. And not being able to go back to sleep..it's almost like having untreated apnea.
Thanks for any help.
Lots of love.

Are you using the exact same settings for the 11 as you were the 10?Love2breathe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 19, 2025 3:21 pmI've been clipping right along until I got the Resmed Airsense 11. Now, I wake up at night with an extremely dry mouth
Do you control your settings or does someone else?

If he is breathing through his mouth while using a nasal-only interface, this is not a solution.

I have used both AS 10 and 11. As far as I can tell they both function similarly without any indication that an AS 11 would cause mouth breathing that causes dry mouth. I have experienced extreme dry mouth for 18 years of PAP therapy due to mouth breathing. Ximelts/humidity do not relieve it. Once in a while, if I remain on my side to sleep, I do not have dry mouth. I usually roll to my back, mouth breathe, and that's why I must use a full face mask. Not sure what new AirFit you are using. Do you not get dry mouth with the Swift but get it with the AirFit?
If you have started mouth breathing, which is a major cause of dry mouth, it may show up in an OSCAR chart as leaks when using a nasal or pillows mask.
My loud snoring stopped with PAP therapy, so not snoring does not especially indicate that mouth breathing is not occurring.
Some go to great lengths to keep their mouths closed during sleep (tape/chin strap/collar). I've tried them all and failed, so I must tolerate an extreme dry mouth to use PAP therapy. I hope you find a solution.

Re: Dry mouth w Airsense 11..did not happen with 10
Sorry for not getting back to people, I didn't have notices properly set. But I wanted to let you know we figured out, possibly because I am getting a deeper sleep, that my mouth opens for just enough time to get that horrible dry mouth. So I'm going to be trying all of the solutions that have been noted, but I also just learned of a new mask. It's pricey but insurance may pay for it. Called a airfit x30i, an interesting hybrid of nasal pillows and mouth shield.
I also just ordered a somnoseal to try with my current mask.
Not gonna lie, it is a drag after all these years to have to add something. But the dry mouth is totally defeating the purpose of the therapy.
I wish surgery and implants were an option for real.
Thanks for your help.
