Hi everyone,
I have issues exhaling with a Resmed Airfit N20.
I've been using a Resmed P10 since I began using a CPAP 5 years ago. It's been going better than I expected with it, except for the fact that the headstrap always ends up loosening and some nights where I move more than others, the strap moves over my head, which makes the mask itself moves and wakes me up. This is with the "newer" strap model that you can tighten (but seem to loosen up by itself). Whenever I get a new one, it's fin for a couple of nights, but it always ends up loosening.
I decided to give the Resmed Airfit N20 a try. From the start I noticed I needed to raise the pressure (which felt normal), but that it also was really hard to exhale. With the P10, my starting pressure is 8 and I put it at 10 for the N20.
I don't know if I have a deviated septum, but I do have a nostril that I have issue breathing in or out from so, I figured that was the issue (and the whole reason I tried a nasal pillow 5 years ago).
I kept the mask on and finally went to sleep. When I woke up during the night, exhaling was actually ok. Nonetheless, after the first 2 nights, even though the My air app was telling me everything was fine, I felt really bad and with neck stiffness, which I believe came from the fact I was afraid the mask would leak and put my head in a wrong position on the pillow (I am a side sleeper).
The 3rd. night, I decided to raise the pressure and I had to put it at 14 to feel "ok" going to sleep.
The problem is that leakage was over the double as per the app, and I woke up with jaw stiffness and a headache, a telltale sign that I spent part of my sleep with my mouth open.
Yesterday, I went back to my P10 and had a good night.
Also, my EPR is at 3 and the N20 vent seems to work perfectly fine.
So, I guess I have multiple questions:
- Is the issue I have with the Airfit N20 typical of a nasal mask for someone who has trouble breathing by the nose in everyday life?
- what tricks did you find to maintain a P10 in place over the head in case of movements?
- Are there any better nasal pillow mask than the P10 for the headgear?
The P10's breathing performances is really great for me, but being woken up by the strap going down toward my neck and moving the pillows away from my nose can be troublesome.
Thanks.

skull cap?

or a helmet liner. I've only heard others talking of this. while I use the P10, I haven't used the adjustable strap, just the solid one. i've found that when it starts to loosen, I toss it in with the laundry and it tightens back up.
good luck!
