Long story short.
New ResMed AirSense 11 working fine on Verizon for a couple of weeks. Local Verizon LTE extender plus non-extended network is much better signal than T-Mobile.
Device decides not to update to the latest Device Update 7 SW04600.14.8.3.0.
Nope, didn't do something constructive and useful like update itself.
It decides that it no longer wants to work with Verizon and changes itself to T-Mobile and now went from 5 bars to -121 dbm.
I complained to the FDA and FCC about this, anything else that can be done? Its not right for patients to be subjected to medical device changes without consent. Will try contacting ResMed and DME.
I cant believe that medical devices can just decide to get off a working network and get onto a non-working one. Also, is there no way to get a wifi module for these things? Even the ancient dreamstation1 had a wifi option...
Update: The ResMed decided to switch itself back to Verizon. Looks like an approach to getting these types of devices with these Thales / Telit / Cinterion multi-network IOT LTE-M cellular module to flip is to make sure the LTE extender doesnt stay off for any long periods of time. If the ResMed's module flips to another provider, isolate the ResMed while rebooting in close proximity to the LTE extender while otherwise in a dead zone. I dont think ResMed or the DME can control this (or at least not easily).

Your machine uses Resmed's phone company, not yours.

ResMed, like most connected devices, use m2m/IoT technologies.
Device connection falls into two broad categories, Steered or Controlled.
Steered, means it will connect to the predefined, contracted provider, but can fail-over to other providers, if the predefined provider is unavailable.
Controlled, means it will connect to the strongest, most reliable connection.
The problem with Steered is, if the contracted provider is available, but connection is really week, it will still choose the contracted provider.
Controlled, while preferrable, is prohibitively expensive, and typically only used for mission critical applications.

I know this. But when it was on Verizon, it would use my LTE extender and get 5 bars. Then it switched to T-Mobile and it gets no signal (eg, -121dbm).
So the ResMed decided to choose a crappier network. It literally decided to go from 5 bars to none.

Thanks for this, it sounds like these are 'steered' and asking/begging the DME and ResMed.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 10:51 amThe problem with Steered is, if the contracted provider is available, but connection is really week, it will still choose the contracted provider.
I will try complaining but it sounds like these devices care more about saving fiat than doing the job right.
