Cooling bed pillows for CPAP

Post by fmj13 » Mon Jul 14, 2025 7:02 pm

I have had to switch out the bed pillow I have been using for years as it now feels too firm, like putting my head on a rock. I have switched to an older pillow. Both of these pillows have cutouts for CPAP masks. While the older one is less firm, it is incredibly hot, turning it over does not help. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a pillow that has adjustable firmness and is cool to the touch? Are there pillows without cutouts that have worked for other CPAP users? My current mask is the ResMed AirTouch N20.

Thank you

I use (and have used for many years) a buckwheat hull (mixed with some foam bits) and zero cutouts.
It's not overly warm I don't think. I used this type of pillow before I was even diagnosed with OSA and put on cpap because it helps my poor old arthritic neck.

Pillows are very individualized....they are like masks...some people love them and some people hate the same ones that others just love.

In over 15 years of cpap use....I have never used a bed pillow with cutouts for the mask. Just never had a problem and didn't see the need.

I got an email from cpap.com the other day and they were talking about a cooling bed pillow. I didn't look it up but you might start there.

when I started using CPAP, I had an issue with using a standard pillow with my CPAP mask. someone here (either chicago granny or chunkyfrog) suggested that I continue using my standard pillow but to change how I used it. I, too, use a nasal pillow mask. what was suggested was I bunch up the edge of the pillow. then lay my head down with the mask over that slight edge.

granted, it took months to train myself but in the end, it worked.

you may want to try that while you are looking for your perfect pillow.

good luck!
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

I don't have a cpap cut out pillow but I do use the N-20 mask. This pillow works well for me. https://a.co/d/1tL4SUo
