Respironics Flex & Bipap

Post by kwikwater » Wed Jun 25, 2025 3:08 pm

I've just left an appointment with my electrophysiologist. He's leaning me toward bi-pap and has requested a new sleep study. I don't mind the study, if I actually sleep, as it's been 12 years since I had one. I've changed a few of the settings on my Phillips Dreamstation 2 a bit, by increasing the Flex setting from 2 to 3 and put it on auto at 13-17cfm. It barely went off 13 for the first night, last night, up to 14.6 and for just 3-5 seconds. I've been at 13 for 12 years now. How much different is a Flex setting 3 from a a bipap? I can't seem to find how much relief the Flex is supposed to give! Thanks all!

Flex setting is roughly equivalent to a per cm reduction with each setting.
It depends on which Respironics model but the earlier models wouldn't/couldn't give more than a 2 cm drop even with a setting of 3 but from some of the reports I have seen the setting of 3 seems to give a 3 cm drop. This was the latest DreamStation model.

So a setting of 1 or 2 will give you a 1 or 2 cm drop and the setting of 3 may give a 3 cm drop if the machine is a later model but at least a 2 cm drop.
