Hose length - response directly from Respironics and CPAP

Post by ddpelp » Mon Apr 09, 2007 1:28 pm

with the discussion about hose length and it possible ability to affect an auto CPAP machine during use I emailed both Respironics and CAPAdiscount.com and called CPAP.com direct. .. Kinda expected the replies to be positive from cpapdiscount.com and cpap.com since they sell the 10 foot hoses but was more then surprised that Respironics agrees!!

CPAP.com 800 number person said the 10 foot hose would work fine and the coupler they sell many folks have put two 6 footers together with no problem.

Below are the two emailed responses:

Respironics

We have been told that you may use 2 6ft sections of tubing without any problems occurring with the autoalgorythm. The 10 foot tubing will work fine.

No the 10’ hose will not affect your auto cpap. Its ok to use the 10’ instead of the 6’.

Thank You

As a person who uses a "lot" of hose, I have never been able to tell the difference.

I don't think I would make it through the night on a six footer.

Kinda blows the theory that the diffuser on the pur-sleep system would make the world as we know it end, doesn't it.

Yep sure seems to and with Respironics agreeing it is ok as I say sure surprised me. I figured they would take the "don't mess
with our product" safety stance. Anyway, that is what they say.. I feel better about my 10 footer had thought about going to 8 footer but not now I KNOW a 6 footer will not work for me.

Too bad the Aussie heated hose only comes in the six-foot length. Anybody ever add a two-foot regular hose to a heated hose?

Enough on the Pursleep already--man.

TerryB

You know I wondered exactly that let me know when/if you determine anything <g>

Wearyone

I sure woudl not be an expert but seems that adding the extra length with the heated hose inline would not keep the heated hose from doing its thing. dunno ..

What about a 10" hose with a straight cpap machine?

Linda, I emailed them before ordering it and ask if they had anything other than a six-foot hose and he said they didn't. So, I just ordered the six-foot because I really need it. He didn't say they could make one or anything and I never thought to ask.

ddpelp, I didn't know if running through two feet of unheated hose would make much of a difference of not, or if it was safe. I don't have the machine sitting right next to the bed because the noise bothers me, which makes six-feet real short ( just sitting up in bed to rearrange the pillows can be a might comical). Might try the styrofoam cooler idea to muffle the noise so I can set the machine closer.

Quit being so damn serious, Snoredog.

I appreciate the help you have given me since I've been hanging out here, in fact, I am now sleeping better as a direct result of your advice, but you can get too serious at times...lighten up.

I contacted Respironics a few months ago asking about hose length and my M series auto.

Their response was something to the effect of: The longest tubing that they offer is 10 ft tubing. However, it is
recommended to keep the tubing length as short as possible.

I can do this, I will do this.

My disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, nor have I ever worked in the health care field Just my personal opinions.
