10 nights in a trailer/caravan

Post by dougweller » Sun Apr 08, 2007 2:18 pm

I'm going to be spending 10 nights in a small caravan without access to mains electricity. My CPAP machine (Fisher & Paykel Sleepstyle 200) won't take 12V. Can I run it directly off a portable generator with an inverter? Running off batteries doesn't seem practical for such a long period, and the generators are lighter than a battery.

I asked F&P about inverters but not generators. The inverter they recommend is at http://www.dc-ac.com/sp-600.htm
600W 12Vdc to 240 Vac Power Invertor

Mains power on the move
Runs mains powered electrical equipment from car battery power
Suitable for mobile phones, camcorders, AV equipment, laptop
computers, desktop P.Cs, P.C. printers, T.V.s, VCRs, portable work
lights, small power tools, etc.
600 watts continuous power with 1500 watts surge
Modified sine wave
Automatic alarm & shutdown protection against overload, over
temperature and low battery conditions
One, three prong grounded AC outlet
Quiet operation

Thanks
Doug

Doug,

My understanding is that the F&P machines require a "pure" sine wave inverter to work correctly, not a "modified" sine wave inverter as suggested.

You may need to check this out in case it puts your machine at risk.

You might want to check with your sleep lab and they could direct you where to buy batteries or if it can run off generator. Thats a good question. I was wondering that myself if they would run off something in a car if you was taking a long trip..
