Remstar Auto M-Series --Pressure rises while watching TV ?

Post by ABC » Sun Apr 08, 2007 1:39 pm

I have it in the APAP mode with a range of:

8.0 -12.0 for auto operation.

I put the mask on while I was awake and watching TV. The pressure started at 8.0 and then in 15 minutes it was up to 9.0 In five more min. it was up to 10.0. In another ten minutes it was up to 11.0.

The pressure was pushing out my cheeks. There was no obstruction and yet the pressure was still rising. I did not wait to see if it would go past 11.0

When it was at 11.0 I tried breathing deeper and faster to see if it would come down but the pressure stayed at 11.0.

I did not activate the ramp and that seems to be working OK when used.

Is this NORMAL operation and does anyone an idea or what is happening.

I am a Mac user, non intel, and can't use the software. I do log the daily statistics.

is it in Auto mode? IF your DME programmed it, I would check out the settings to make sure they are correct, set the Min & Max to your settings but it should be similar to below:

=============Setup Mode===================
1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (+) key to enter Setup.

Navigation:
- (<-) / (->) buttons move to next field
- (-) / (+) keys decrement/increment field values.
============Available Values===============
Check the following field(s):

-Therapy Mode=Auto (CPAP/Auto)

-Auto:Max=9 (default=20.0cm)

-Auto:Min=6 (default=4.0cm)

-CFlex Setting=2 (options are off, 1, 2 or 3)

-AutoRamp Time=30 (options are 05 to 45 min)

-AutoRamp Pressure=6.0cm (4cm->AutoMin)

-Mask Alert Feature=ON (On/Off)

-Auto Off Feature=Off (On/off)

-Split Night Time = Off (off, 120, 180, 240)

-Show AHI/Leak Feature=ON (On/Off)

Press On/Off button to exit.

==========Resetting LCD Display Data====================

To reset LCD Therapy data (does NOT erase any data from SmartCard):

1. Hold down the (<-) (->) buttons while plugging in the power on the back,
wait for 2 beeps or 5 seconds, release buttons.
2. Press the (->) key and navigate to Therapy screen.
3. Press and HOLD down the (-) minus key for 5 seconds, therapy data will reset to Zero.
4. Press the (->) key to scroll back to main menu, press (+) key to enter Setup or
On/Off button to exit.

I programmed it myself and it is absolutely in the AUTO Mode.

From what I understand it should never got outside the programmed range in the AUTO Mode.

I have never had it in the CPAP mode.

Do you think it is malfunctioning as I have explained it. It sure appears that way to me.

I have reset the data ,as you explained, to see what has happened during the last two nights. Averages are OK but they don't show changes in a timely manner.

My AHI index has been about 10-12 over several weeks and the 90% pressure has been about 10.0 for an average.

The last two nights, with the reset data, I got the following:

1. 10 AHI with 11.0 as 90% pressure
2. 20.2 AHI with 9.5 as the 90% pressure.

Please leat me know what your think. By the way the machine is going back for repair (six weeks old) next week as the humidifier light is flashing, now and then, since I received the unit.

ABC, the machine has no way of telling if you are awake or asleep. You breathe differently when you are awake than you do when asleep, so it is going to do wacky things when you are awake. You can't tell a thing about how the machine acts while you are asleep by looking at how at acts when you are awake.
Machine: M-Series Auto
Mask: Headrest
No humidifier
On the hose since 2005.

I do not have another mask.

I have set it to the CPAP setting tonight. I am using 9.5 cm and will have to see just what happens with the numbers.

I know that, the machine, does not know if you are sleeping or awake but I thought it would get used to the breathing and notice an abnormality.

I was breathing about the same way while watching TV, as I did when trying to go to sleep.

I only had the option of one more mask at CPAP.com according to my measurements but I only have the UMFF mask.

Thank you for the help and advice.
