Help with dry mouth

Post by drivera620 » Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:16 am

Hey guys, CPAP newbie here. I've been using it for a few nights and seem to be slowly getting used to it. The biggest problem seems to be dry mouth and lips. It's so dry that this seems to be the thing waking me up -- my tongue and mucous membranes are stiff because they're so dry. It's an awful feeling and has been waking me up and forces me to remove the mask after about four hours.

I'm sure nose-breathing would solve this problem, and even though I'm a nose-breather during the day, I immediately stop breathing if I try to fall asleep with my mouth closed. This has been an issue for years, possibly before I noticed any other signs of sleep apnea.

Any ideas? I need much more than lip balm, lol.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, that would have been helpful in the OP. I'm using a full face mask.

What is your humidity setting?
I don't know if increasing the amount of moisture in the air in the mask is going to help or not but it is about all you can do in terms of machine settings.

Dry mouth is a common complaint and even using a full face mask with humidity set to max may not be enough added moisture to prevent the dry mouth.
Lots of full face mask users have to supplement their moisture with some sort of oral hydrating product.

Thanks Pugsy. Yeah, I did set my humidity level at maximum. I'm using a Res Med Air Sense 10 CPAP. I think pressure is set to 12.
