Central Sleep Apnea and continued mask leak problems

Post by sandyjk01 » Thu Sep 05, 2024 10:49 pm

Hi all,
I was using a CPAP uneventfully for about 12-13 years when living at sea level. I only qualified for CPAP when on my back and my OSAs increased to 5 per hour. We moved to the mountains of AZ about 6 years ago, and about 3 years ago, I was told I have CSA due to the high altitude (5100 ft).

I did very well with the Sleep Weaver masks prior to the ASV machine but now I've tried all sorts of masks and experience loud sudden leaks that wake me and my husband up. He has resorted to a white noise machine while I lay there and feel horrible about all the squealing. Sounds like a clown. Based on things I'm reading on this forum, I will try a mask liner tonight that I have from a full face mask and see if that helps. I use cut up pieces of fuzzy socks under the straps to avoid marks on my cheeks and I'm wondering if that is keeping the mask from being able to withstand the forceful air from the ASV machine.

My doctor told me that he has very few patients who successfully use less than a full face mask with the ASV machines, but I've tried them and have issues with waking up with extreme dry mouth even with a humidifier. I've tried taping my mouth shut....just not sure how to be quiet at night! Any suggestions? I don't know how to get the readings off my machine, but I do know that my C Reactive Protein reading has dropped dramatically with switching to an ASV machine, which my doctor said is because I'm doing much better now.

Thanks for any experiences you can share with me.

Welcome to the forum.

While I can't answer your questions, I can say that it would make it much easier for the ASV users here to help you if you told us what ASV you are using and your therapeutic settings.

At a minimum, if we knew the machine you are using, we'd be able to tell you how to get data off of it, including the therapeutic settings.

You might want to add "ASV" to the title of your thread to make sure those ASV users notice it and read it.
