mask questions (flexifit hc 431 full face)

1. how do i know if i have leaks in my mask, the dme set it for me, but i kind of played with it a little bit, because i thought i felt air coming through the bottom of it.
2. how does this mask really even work. all of the air is blowing in a hole that is pretty much level with my mouth, and i think i breathe through my mouth at night becuase i wake up with a really dry mouth, but how is this forcing air into my airway and stopping my incidents if all this thing is doing is just blowing air into this mask, and i am just breathing it in? thanks!
