Is this a current thread?

Post by annlcobb@gmail.com » Mon Jun 24, 2024 10:55 am

I don’t see any recent posts to this site. I am having trouble with the Bleep Sleep Eclipse and lack of ineffective adhesion. I am properly prepping my face but any nasal moisture loosens the adhesion of the halos. As a result , I am not using my cpap machine with fidelity. I would like to see this issue addressed.

We have had recent posts daily. I myself have posted daily for quite some time. Others have as well.
You just need to look more closely at dates and times of posts.

Contact Stuart about the adhesion problem you are having with the Eclipse. He has some alternative ideas.

Hello, hopefully you didn't give up on this board and see this.

I've just restarted cpap therapy after a long period of giving up and Bleep are my go-to. I have very oily skin, but I don't have a general issue with the halos (dreamports) adhesive, but I do get leaks if any creases or wrinkles form when I apply/fold around my nose and smooth it. Eventually air will push and find the wrinkle and a little jet of air will squeeze out. I also had one of the metal rings (eclipse/halo) partially separate for a much larger leaks. In all cases if I find the right way to apply pressure with a finger the leak easily stops. I have two "hacks" that can solve these leak problems:

(0) Prep: 91% isopropyl alcohol wipes to any skin that adhesive will apply to, just minutes before applying. This means under (the bottom of) your nose, the creases at the corners, and so on. Go a little beyond the areas where tape/adhesive will go, so you won't accidentally wipe oil back into that area from adjacent skin. 70% isopropyl is not as good. Use 91%. When I use 91% with a cotton ball or cotton pad, I will get a little bit of a "squeak" sound/vibration from wiping the pad on skin when the oil is truly removed. Switch to clean sections of the cotton ball or pad with fresh alcohol to go over all areas a 2nd and even 3rd time if needed.

(1) Reinforce the adhesive pads by adding pieces of COVER ROLL STRETCH tape (search exactly that on amazon) anywhere you find leaks are likely to form. I've only just figured this out in the last few days. I just about reinforce all around the edges of the adhesive pads. If air pressure loosens the adhesive pad, it will still need time to also work it's way under and through the stretch tape. I also think the stretch tape adhesive may stand up to oil/sweat better. You may need to cut sort of a triangle shape to go over the tip of your nose and between the rings (note: a picture would help here -- I have not needed to reinforce the very narrow gap between the rings, but rather the "tip" of the nose and approaching that gap). Basically experiment with what size pieces of cover roll stretch work for you and are easiest to apply. Over a few nights you'll come up with a system that works for you.

Also: Be sure there is plenty of adhesive pad covering the bottom corners of you nose. And it's a good idea to trim just a little bit off the adhesive pads where they meet between the nostrils. It's OK if they overlap each other, but you don't want the 2nd one to overlap the metal ring of the first one, or even close.

(2) If the ring themselves separate: use silicone earplug putty. Get a pack of silicone ear plugs. That stuff is great for temporarily (almost permanently) sealing leaks. I had a ring separate a couple nights ago, grabbed a pinch of that putty (not a whole earplug, just a little pinch off one) and pressed it into/on/around the leak, just by feel, and got it to work -- bought me a couple hour more sleep before a leak started again. But I was able to again press/stretch it by feel into the leak to stop it again and go another couple hours or so before I was done sleeping with no more leak.

Hope this helps you, or anyone else who stops by.

BTW: I learned about COVER ROLL STRETCH tape from "lanky lefty" on youtube--just search that name with "apnea" on youtube to find a lot of useful and funny (imo) vids about cpap. Not sure if he hangs out here.

Never heard of 'im. (smirk)

Unfortunately the 'two roll deal' on Amazon is now backed up to August 28...

Someone just let me know of an equivalent:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QN32FGZ

Looks the same, even better price... Chinese, of course. There is a one-roll pack of the good stuff available for 10-day delivery:

Looks like Amazon is squeezing us into using Chinese equivalents.

The consumer is demanding it.

Amazon is facilitating it.
