Mask With Magnets Causing Headaches??

Post by msr0459 » Sat Jan 20, 2024 10:03 am

I've been using the Quattro Fx for a very long time. I've recently started leasing the new Airsense 11, and now have to order supplies from my local Lincare until my lease is up. They're having problems getting replacement parts because the Quattro Fx is such an older model mask, so I went online and purchased the Resmed F20 full face mask.

I realize that correlation doesn't equal causation, BUT the first night wearing the F20, I had a headache all night. Upon removing the mask the next morning, the headache went away. So after researching contraindications with this mask, it seems that the magnets can cause, among other things, headaches in some.

So in addition to the headache, after removing the mask, I noticed that the very top of my nose was painful, red, and somewhat raw. I haven't experimented with possibly loosening the top straps, but it certainly didn't feel too tight.

Has anyone else experienced headaches because of masks with magnets? Very frustrating, as I really only have the occasional hypopnea, and snoring. I'm a horribly light sleeper, and any little "snort" will wake me. The Quattro FX is extremely quiet, as is the F20. I've tried other full face with the nasal (under the nose) cushion, but they're WAY to noisy for me! Can't imagine how anyone sleeps with Darth Vader whooshing away? Lol

Are they're any full face masks, that don't use magnets (just to be sure) AND that are very quiet?

Thanks for reading,
Marc

could be a few things:
- strapping too tight?
- magnets causing issues if you have any type of metal in your mouth such as fillings, dentures etc.
- positioning of upper strap too far back

The f20 is known for causing sores ontop of the nose, especially with the silicone not having much cushion. try some paw paw cream

hope this helps

The straps were for sure not too tight, or too far back. It is strange that the mask felt actually more comfortable than the Quattro fx, until i took it off and noticed the raw area on my nose bridge. I do still have a couple of old amalgam fillings, so maybe? I plan on trying the f20 again to see. I went back to the Quattro fx last night, to give my nose bridge some healing time. I was planning on maybe placing a small bandage on that area of my nose, and trying the f20 again. Never heard of "paw paw cream"?

Pawpaw is a close relative of papaya. Here is information about pawpaw cream: https://lucaspapaw.com.au/faq/
* Download Oscar
* Oscar help
* An alternative to Oscar - try SleepHQ

I have no medical training or qualifications. Take my advice for what it's worth.

No, you don't have to order supplies from Lincare. Depending on your insurance, you can order supplies from any DME that will take your business, and many online suppliers including our hosts at cpap.com (which you appear to have already discovered in your purchase of the F20). If you order from cpap.com, in most cases "return insurance" within 30 days is free, which is a good way to try out new masks. Once you know which mask works best for you, you can anywhere.

I agree.
You can buy supplies anywhere you like.
If you want insurance to kick in, get their list from them.
Lincare wants your exclusive business, and will LIE to get it.
Don't even expect a DME to give you the correct time. Ever.
