Conduct noise from TV audio

Post by RSki » Wed Dec 20, 2023 5:04 pm

I have a Philips Dream Station CPAP machine. It is new and very quiet. No noise from filters, hoses, masks or humidification.

Here's my problem. I live in an apartment building. At night it is dead quiet. I put on the CPAP machine and mask and it is very quiet. If the neighbor in the adjoining apartment above me turns on the TV, I can hear the audio with my CPAP machine on and running. If I turn off the machine, I cannot hear any sound coming from the TV.

How can I stop my CPAP machine from receiving the audio sound?

Try a white noise machine. I use an app downloaded to an old cell phone.

Can you get Jimmy Kimmel?

You're saying that somehow the audio from the TV, one floor above you, is being retransmitted by your cpap? If you turn on the cpap but don't put on your mask/head gear, can you still hear the TV through the cpap or is it only when you're masked up?

This is very strange, and I can't imagine what would cause it. Frankly, I don't believe it's even possible. The TV above is not broadcasting the audio in any way that the cpap could pick up, except for the audible sound and it's not going to rebroadcast that.

To piggyback off of what Conrad is asking- Do you hear it with mask on and machine off?

What mask?

If it was an N30i or something with the frame around the face and ears I can imagine a scenario where as we know sound travels better thru solids than air.

If you hear it louder with mask on and pap on or off, you might get creative and try to figure out a way to dampen sound thru solids ie felt under nightstand corners.

Curious indeed!

I'm beginning to wonder whether RSki is a Russkie bot. Yes?

The obvious thing to try is to reposition the machine, perhaps even slightly. Also, try putting a towel under it.
