My OSA seems gone. Time will tell....

Post by dvejr » Fri Dec 15, 2023 11:37 pm

First sleep study and diagnosis in 2006, but I clearly had OSA for 15-20 years before that. I was lucky to find CPAP easy to use, and have worn a mask every night for almost 18 years.
Second sleep study in 2013 showed fewer disturbances and the clinic results called for a lower pressure. My CPAP was dialed down accordingly.
I now have Parkinson's. Among the symptoms/effects is sleep disturbance. PD affects the rhythm of my sleep - progress through stages, REM, etc. Those afflicted often act out their dreams, vocalize more, move limbs.
They also are told to exercise more, exercise constantly, so I have and have shed 30 pounds.

So - due to a recent change of insurers I just had an at-home sleep test to assess my condition. It shows that I no longer have symptoms of OSA. I'll stow the mask for a few nights now and see what happens. Might be the sleep pattern changes, might be the weight loss, but I think it is possible I don't have OSA anymore!

What about setting your pressures to 4 - 20 and checking what happens? I would do that before trying without.

So sorry about the Parkinson's.
