Weighted blanket for anxiety

Post by dh37 » Tue Nov 21, 2023 10:40 am

I was thinking of getting a weighted blanket to help with anxiety. (Yeah, it's not entirely medically proven, but I want to try reasonable non-pharm interventions.)

The web implies that if you have OSA, it might not be a good idea. OTOH, some state further that, however, if you're being treated with cpap (as am I), it's fine.

Anyone know about this?

Is your CPAP therapy optimized?

another thing to take into consideration is the weight of the blanket you are looking at.

Personally i use a weighted blanket in the winter and i have no problems. but everyone is different. Also pay attention to the return policy of the company you are going to purchase from.

Hi dh37,

If you're willing to try "reasonable non-pharm interventions", you might gather some information on Havening. It is a new form of treatment. It is short term, non-pharmalogical, and highly effective in cases of persistent anxiety

It was devised by two American doctors, Steve Ruden and his brother Ron Ruden. See here:

Wow, Rick! I just went to the Havening website and watched some videos and tried the Havening technique. I immediately felt calm and very well. I think this would help everyone.

Thanks!

How do you mean? I see the doc about once/year. He clearly reads the summary "telemetry" data. On the other hand, it's only a summary, so if by "optimized" you mean "have you looked at detailed data coming from the machine via OSCAR [or whatever it's called now]" the answer is "no". (That's not to say I think the latter wouldn't be helpful; just not sure what you meant.)

the short answer is yes. but granny means more than that. she means minimum and maximum pressure set so that it treats your apnea best. being a veteran at this, you know that not everyone has the exact same sleep apnea. nor will the exact same settings do best for everyone.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Nearly worthless in many cases.

Yeah, I agree. For something as medically important as this, it's ridiculous. But that's the way it is...thankfully there's this group!
