Moisture in mask

Post by xkexk8 » Sun Jul 30, 2023 10:10 am

I had used CPAP many year ago and quit. Decided to give it another go. After some experimentation (with straps) I got thru the night with no air leakage the night before last. Last night after about 8 hours of sleep I noticed that my bed was wet. Took off the mask and it was saturated with moisture and actually had some water in it. Note that my machine does include heater water, I'm at a loss as to why the moisture built up.

Thoughts: The three exhaust holes in the mask are functioning normally. During the past week with the moisture the machine puts out I'm still dried out the next morning - so I should be absorbing the moisture via my mouth / nose. I searched the message board but didn't see anything relevant to my issue. Probably there somewhere but I couldn't find it.

Any thoughts or help appreciated. Seems like a weird issue.

Thanks. "Rain Out" - who'd ah thought. Is it possible to purchase a heated hose (that doesn't heat via my "old" CPAP unit)?

At the above link posts number 2 and 3 lists various options for dealing with rain out depending on a person's equipment.

Heated hose works great but we don't always have that option with some of the older equipment out there.

I still see Hybernite universal heated hoses up for sale.
The bullfrog bought one years ago, to use with his Devillbiss Intellipap.
He never unpacked either.

I doubt that a heated hose will help you with this problem. What it will do is help the air in the hose hold more water. When this moist air contacts a cool/cold hose or mask it will condense. Give a hose cozy a try. You can make one for the sort hose near the mask by cutting a slit in a cotton sock to slip over the hose. Turning down the heat in the humidifier may also help.

After pondering this for a while I suspect the heating element has failed. I'll know if that is the issue in the morning.

Last night things returned to normal. There was a little moisture in the mask after about two hours of sleep. By morning everything was dry. So I'm hoping yesterday was an anomaly. Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions. Really appreciate the help offered.
