Hello from Panama

Post by robertjoy » Wed Oct 27, 2004 2:36 pm

Hello everyone and I've been using a CPAP for over 14 years, first in Australia, then the USA and now in Panama. It's amazing still how few local doctors have very scant knowledge about CPAP even in the USA. I've been living in Central America now for over 4 years and the knowledge is almost not known when I talk about CPAP to local doctors. There are no sleep clinics available so I hope that my pressure does not need to be adjusted if so I don't know what I'll do nor how to find out. One very big advantage of living here is that I don't have to attend a doctor if I need medicine or drugs, I waltz into a chemist or pharmacy and ask, if they are not life threatening and I don't look like a drug user I buy, I use, I smile. It always puzzles me why a perscription or permission is needed to buy a life saving machine, I mean isn't that what a CPAP machine is, or am I missing something.
At present I'm using a Breeze Nasal and just changed over from CPAP Pro which I used for over 3 years until the parts for the device got impossible to obtain. The Breeze Nasal device I really like, why it's called a pillow is beyond me. I'm using it without any straps as they suggest and after three weeks of use have had no problems.
Thank you for putting this forum on the internet and if I can assist any newbie to using the CPAP I'm always here.

Welcome robertjoy!

On the CPAP and Sleep Apnea forum there is a thread regarding how many masks and/or pcs of equipment you've used. I bet in 14 years you have seen alot!

I look forward to benefiting from your vast experience since I'm a CPAP user of a grand total of one day.

Any long term effects of CPAP a user of 14 years can educate us on?
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

Hi Robert,

I enjoyed reading your first posts! You've got worlds of experience behind you - with cpap and with living in other countries.

Bienvenidos!
