Life of CPAP Machine

Post by Sissy63 » Sat Jul 22, 2023 7:37 am

About a year ago, I started having terrible brain fog and fatigue and I have tried everything to resolve it. I also started clinching my teeth. I feel like a tired 3 year old some days. I have done very little this summer because I am just to tired.

My life is great and I am.not mentally stressed about anything. I am happy and recently engaged to a great guy.

I have seen countless doctors who have not been able to help with the fatigue and brain fog. I did start back on thyroid meds about 6 months ago and still trying to settle on the right combination. So far that has not resolved my issues. All my bloodwork is great including D3, B12, and iron.

My sleep hygiene is great, but I don't sleep as long as I need and not sure how to resolve that yet. Since going on thyroid, I do get more sleep. I still have room for improvement.

My AHI is consistently below 1, my leak rate is almost zero, especially since switching to the Eclipse. I have used the N20 up until a few weeks ago. I raow my mouth, use a cervical collar, and now the Cube pillow (which I like). I follow my OSCAR data and make notes almost daily in the software. My best days are when my pressure is a static 11 and humidity at 1. I do not use ramp or EPR.

I am seeing a sleep specialist on Aug. 9th to rule out any other sleep disorders and ask about supplemental oxygen. If I increase my pressure then my following day is really bad, so that doesn't seem like an option. I even tried the V-com and after a week decided I didn't like it.

This morning I was thinking that maybe my machine is just ready to be replaced. I assume like anything electronic, the life varies from one machine to another. My machine is getting close to 10,700 hours. I change the filter regularly. I have changed out the water tank and hoses and that made no difference.

Has anyone experienced this and once they replace their machine things improve? When do people generslly replace their machines? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

The average life of the Resmed Airsense machine is 17-18,000 hours. Some last longer some quit sooner. Your machine has only about 3.5 years use. It should be good for another 2-3 years.

Thanks for the information! I just wish I knew why I am SO tired.

It is making life difficult. I have 2 cats, so I don't know if that could be an issue. I use a filter and it never looks nasty when I change it.

Fortunately, I have a spare, so will try it and see if that makes a difference. If not, maybe the sleep doctor will have some thoughts. I have a life to live and being so tired is making it hard to live it.

A machines effectiveness is not determined by its age, it's determined by it's performance.

The only device performance indicator you supplied is an AHI under 1, which suggests your device is performing well and your problems are not CPAP related. but to be sure post some OSCAR graphs.

That sounds logical. I have a low AHI regardless of the pressure I am on. I titrated at 13, but can't tolerate anything over 11. If I can get enough clear brain cells together, I will try to post some OSCAR charts.
