Post Nasal Drip

Post by bakerboy » Sun Apr 01, 2007 12:20 pm

I have a serious problem with post nasal drip in the back of my throat when i am not using my machine, the drip is so heavy it changes my voice. I have tried Mucinex which helps a little. The air flow of the machine clears my throat when i sleep.

Any thoughts or how you were able to solve this problem,

That's one of the hazards of cpap therapy. You need to do a search for nasal congestion, etc.

Are you using a heated humidifier? That is an absolute must for most people.

Post nasal drip

Post by jimbassett » Sun Apr 01, 2007 1:13 pm

Running my humidifier one notch below full "ON" has helped me more than anything. I have to fill the humidifier with water (distilled) every day in order for it to last the night. My wife made me a flannel cover to slip on over the hose. This has helped to keep the air warm and no rain-outs.

Keep trying new and different tactics and you will find something that works for you. Keep on keeping on. jim

I am one of those that tends to get sinus drip which causes tender throat or even chest congestion if I am not careful. My mom ended up making me a hose cover of fleece and it works very well and helps me turn my humidifier up higher without having so much rain out. If I try to use CPAP without the humidifier or with it on low I would not be able to do it.
Also if it really is bothering me I use a nasal mask instead of a mask with nose pillows. Which kind of mask are you using?

PS, when I say my mom made the hose cover it makes me sound like a kid but I am really a middle aged old broad and I am just lucky enough to have my mom still alive and well!
