HDM Z1 CPAP with a Fault 21, anyone know anything about this?

Post by remstarcpap » Sun Jul 02, 2023 7:07 pm

I've got an older Z1 CPAP that I've only used a handful of times. I was getting it ready, plugged it in, and it went through it's self-check and now has flashing Fault 21. I can't find any info on the internet about this. Is my machine toast? Anyone know anything about fixing this?

Try switching out the clock battery

I assume I have to dissemble the unit?

I found the manual and it says that Fault 21 means: "Treatment Pressure not programmed, discontinue use and contact your health care provider or HDM. "

And I found the other thread about taking it apart to replace the battery. Not sure it is worth the hassle, frankly, as I was planning on selling the machine anyway. I guess it could be an airplane cpap.

Check with HDM/Breas.
If I remember correctly, they may give a discount toward a Z2, which is not prone to this issue.

Breas is offensively useless, offering nothing but a $100 off on an $800 Z2. I would never give them a cent, and strongly recommend no one else do so either, since they clearly made the Z1 to be a disposable machine.

I believe you have figured out what to do yourself.
Good for you.

I was able to get a discount on a refurbished Z2 and paid $245 for it, a lot cheaper than brand new. I only use it while travelling, so it gets less than 2 months of use per year, and size was important to me. I've had the Z2 for about a year now and hope it lasts longer than the Z1.
