ResMed airsense 10 question

Post by Otterdaughter » Wed Jun 14, 2023 9:13 am

My machine is about 4 years old and I can't remember something...when you wake up, it's suppose to sense that and decrease the pressure, right?
I'm finding it hard to roll over and get back to sleep without it shifting and leaking with it pushing on my face so hard. I usually end up waking up more so I can reach over and turn it off for a second to get it to lighten up.

No. ResMed's don't try to determine if you've awakened and change the pressure.

They respond to:
  • Obstructive Apneas
    Hypopneas
    Flow Limitations
    Snores
By increaseing the pressure, and decrease pressure when none are occuring.

If you are prone to a lot of leaking, because of side sleeping, then a change of mask is probably your best option.

If you use a full face mask, consider a ResMed F30i, if you use a nasal mask then a ResMed P30i, or N30i might help.

Thanks Dog. I will pull the card and check if it's actually reducing pressure when apneas aren't happening. My impression is that once it ramps up the pressure, it never drops back down. This started fairly recently (along with some other issues), and I'm thinking my machine is starting to go kaput.
...
Well, Oscar says it is dropping pressure when apneas aren't happening, just not dropping very much, from 11 at max to 9 between events. Time to wash my mask straps again so they snug up a bit more to cut the leaks, and maybe the foam in my CPAP pillow is wore out.

That's expected. Abrupt increases, then followed by very gradual decreases.

Post some graphs for comment if you like.

And the decreases are even more gradual (or non-existent) if you're using the Autoset For Her mode.

If you have a high level of leaks, the machine sensors might not measure flow and pressure accurately. Then, the algorithm that controls the machine pressure wouldn't work as designed.

Thanks all. And despite the leaks, my AHI is down to an average of 1.8, so something is working.

I do need to get the beast serviced, because it makes mooing noises with my breathing when the pressures are up...I have to put a pillow over it to muffle the noise. (Yes, the air filter is clean and unobstructed 😉) But that's a whole 'nother problem...
