got my Phiilip Dreamstation recall replacement

Post by Cavi » Mon Apr 03, 2023 7:20 pm

so I am in a odd situation, I have used a CPAP for probably 8 years now, at first I was using a Phillips system One and I liked it. I am self diagnosed so I bought it used withpout insurance. I used it for about 2 or 3 years then I bought a Resmed unit which is way quieter than the system one was. I again bought it from a company that rents and sells refurbished units. It has been good, other than a couple of years ago the heater stopped working, but they warrentied it. Unit still works good, but it has major hours on it (16900). Also I did use Ozone on it, and once in awhile I do see stuff in my water tank, not always but once in awhile.
As soon as the recall started I filed and today Phillips sent me a refurbished Dreamstation unit. I plan on trying it as I really did like the system one other than the fact that it was loud. I did think it did a better APAP job than the Resmed Airsense.
'The dreamstation that I just got from Phillips looks good but when I go in to the system menu I can see that the machine itself has 1939 hours on it.
My wife also has a like new Airsense that she got from the insurance about 2 years ago. She got Bariatric surg. 1.5 yrs ago and now she no longer needs the unit as she has lost lots of weight and no longer snores or has sleep apnea. So I could also use her unit if I really wanted.
So feelings? 1: stick with my airsense until it dies 2: run the Phillips? 3: Steal my wife's unit

I now remember what I liked better about the Phillips system over my airsense. The Airsense sometomes dries out my mouth as the top fluctuates alot while the Phillips does not give me dry mouth

Take apart your AirSense and remove the foam disk. It's damaged, and breaking apart, because of Ozone use. You don't want to be using it.

Here's a tear-down video.

If you've been using Ozone on your machine, You're probably also been using ozone on your wife's ResMed so, take it apart and inspect the foam disk.

You can remove the foam disk from both and run he machine just fine, it's for sound abatement. Many have removed it and not even noticed a sound difference.

Increase your Humidity on the ResMeds to take care of the dryness.

BTW, even if you do decide to go with your DreamStation, I still suggest you tend to your two ResMeds so you have two good backup units.

Throw out the toxic ozone machine!
Just pick it up; cut off the power cord (to prevent reuse); and drop it in a dumpster.
Thank you.
