Clearing of a cpap

Post by Sleepies » Tue Dec 13, 2022 8:23 pm

Trying to sell a CPAP and contacted second wind and other resellers and they said they can’t buy the machine until cleared from the DME. I then contacted CPAP.com and they said they can’t clear the machine. I emailed second wind to see if they could help further and they just said they can’t sell an uncleared machine. No further help or clarification on what “cleared” even means. Anyone know what I can do to get my machine cleared?

Sounds like they want all the user data erased and all the settings set back to their defaults. If I were you, I'd contact secondwind again and ask them if that's what they mean by "cleared".

If that is what they mean, it's easy to do once you get into the clinical menu.

Thank you. I’ll try asking them that. I just assumed it wouldn’t be that easy, but I guess I shouldn’t assume lol.

Unless you can find out what they mean by "cleared", I don't think we can help you, because "cleared" isn't a common term.

One can RESET the machine, or the data, and if the machine is registered to someone's account (depending on what brand it is) it can be released from that registration, but 'cleared' is not a meaningful term.

Here is the entire message just in case anyone has any other thoughts:

Thank you for your interest.

For the DreamStation DSX520 machines, the machine will have to be cleared by the original medical store that the recalled DreamStation was purchased from. Philips already registered the replacement machines under the patients name so in order to resell it, the serial number will need to be cleared.

To get this machine cleared, you will need to contact the DME that you purchased this machine or the original DreamStation machine from.

Yeah exactly. When I asked for clarification, they replied that unfortunately they can’t buy an uncleared machine and no other info or help. I figured someone here might have run into the same situation and would know what it means.

Yep; thanks to philips-respironics, a lot of people are royally scrooged.
Obviously, you are using a different machine--hopefully a better one.
You and other scroogees can build a big cpap bonfire--and put it on YouTube!

I bet Phillips knows that many of the replacement machines will be put up for sale, since so many got a replacement (ie Resmed) during their two years of nonsense.

Perhaps it is their way of preventing folks from re-selling the machines?

Sounds like you’re right. Probably will just be a backup to my backup. I have a airsense 11, an airsense 10, a dreamstation 2 and a dreamstation go (recalled).

Here is what second wind replied when I asked for clarification again:

No, the serial number will need to be cleared. You will have to contact whoever you purchased this DreamStation 2 machine, or the original DreamStation machine from.

So, I guess I’m screwed because cpap.com says they can’t clear serial numbers. Will try to sell it privately I guess altho not much interest it seems. It’s actually a nice machine, but I don’t have a DME with care orchestrator so I can’t set up the auto shut off function.

Oh well.

Do we know that cpap.com even registered the serial number and assigned it to you? Registering the serial number usually comes from a DME.
They register the serial number so that when the data gets transmitted it goes to your name/account and the DME knows about it and also can access the data.
I don't think that cpap.com notifies anyone when they sell a machine to someone.... if they don't register machines in the first place then they can't unregister it either.

Good thoughts. I find it interesting that cpap.com or second wind can’t break this down for me. Just getting simple answers - can’t clear your machine, can’t purchase an uncleared machine-contact the original DME etc.

An individual can sell a cpap they own free and clear privately to another person;
But the buyer cannot access or use online services with that machine.
One can donate the machine directly to a free clinic.
Even without online access, the cpap "should" work; and could save somebody's life.
Sadly, those who bought respironics--bought trouble.
