New CPAP Machine Advice
New CPAP Machine Advice
Hi. I have been using my Phillips Res Remstar PRO CFlex+ since 2010. In 2017 I got a Resmed Air10 but never felt like I got as much air as the Remstar so I continued to just use that. Well I just found out about the recall and I am freaking out. I see my doctor tomorrow and want to ask her to order a new machine. I don't know what machine to ask for. I know from previous experience its best if they specify exactly what machine they want you to have so you don't get stuck with the chinese knock offs that are out there right now. What is the best machine? My pressure is 8 or 9 (I had a new sleep study last year and it was still the same) - its not an auto adjusting or bipap. I have never used the humidifier because they give me sores on my nose - I think because I live coastal, I don't need the extra humidity. Is there another machine that you can take off the humidifier or at least not use it? I know I may be waiting a while for a new one because the shortages. What's the good machine right now? Another Redmed I assume.
Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
if you still have that resmed airsense10, why not use that? you can get it to the settings you need with the help of the oscar software and the folks from this forum.
OR buy a new airsense10 and use what you have as a backup.
good luck!

Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset is the best machine on the market

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
Why is it better than the Airsense 11 Autoset?
Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
Virtually the same machine with a smaller footprint.. AS 10 is cheaper and a proven workhorse.

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
When you got the ResMed in 2016, you posted one time (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=113917&p=1101320#p1101320) and were asked if you checked to compare the actual pressure settings on the two machines. You never followed up and only posted now, six years later.
You can get help in this forum, but you have to do your part to cooperate. Have you checked whether the two machines are set at the same pressures?

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
- There are supply chain issues with Air 11s making it difficult to get some replacement supplies
- There are a lot of reports of SD Cards not writing the data properly, even amongst those with Air10 experience. This suggests an SD card seating problem. (anecdotal)
- The heated hose connector doesn't swivel, nor have a 90 degree bend. This can create device orientation problems and can effectively reduce the the usable hose length.
- The Air11 doesn't (yet) have a long term established history. But, there aren't any serious red flags yet.

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
FWIW, I haven't had any of those issues. I was able to order a heated tube to replace the unheated one that came with the order and a water chamber to have on hand just in case, and both arrived within a few days. I read the SD card into Oscar daily, with no issues. The lack of a swivel connector has not restricted where I put the machine, although I suppose it could for some people. As a newby, this is my first CPAP, and I couldn't be more satisfied with it. Not arguing whether it's as good as or better than it's predecessor, which I've never used, just asked because I was curious.Dog Slobber wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 8:49 am

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
If you felt you did not get enough air with the ResMed 10, did you ever check the settings?

Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
Not sure why you just want to flame me. I did read responses and try to adjust the pressure but I just wanted to sleep so I resumed using my machine I didn't have issues with. Now I have no choice, so I have to figure it out.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 6:36 amWhen you got the ResMed in 2016, you posted one time (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=113917&p=1101320#p1101320) and were asked if you checked to compare the actual pressure settings on the two machines. Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
Yes, I went into the clinical settings and made sure the pressure matched my other machine. I used the Redmed last night for the first time in years and my sinuses and head hurt so bad today. I did change it to auto mode to try it out. Not sure if I need to adjust it further or add humidity to this one. Not sure why with a different machine it would be different. Since I will be using this machine for now, do you have suggestions on how best ways to figure out how to troubleshoot it?
Re: New CPAP Machine Advice
What auto range did you use for the Resmed AirSense Auto? And have you looked at the data in Oscar or SleepHQ? It could be the auto adjusting machine was increasing the pressure (perhaps unnecessarily) past where you are used to with the Remstar. Not everybody does better in Auto mode, and since you are used to fixed pressure, that might be part of the problem.jenn52 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:44 pmYes, I went into the clinical settings and made sure the pressure matched my other machine. I would suggest that you start by doing what you can to mimic the settings on the two machines at least at the start.
Your old machine is a PR Remstar Pro with CFlex+. (Is it a System One or an M-Series?) That's a fixed pressure machine. You indicated your pressure is 8cm or 9cm. Which is it? Next, do you use CFlex+ on the PR Remstar? If so, what is it set to? Finally, do you use the ramp on your Remstar? If so, what's the beginning ramp pressure and how long is the ramp period?
I would strongly suggest that you set the Resmed AirSense 10 Auto to CPAP mode at the same pressure as your Remstar. Then I would turn EPR on to the same setting that you are using CFlex+.
EPR is not quite the same as CFlex+, but it is the exhalation relief system on Resmed machines. EPR is more predictable in how it behaves than CFlex+ is, so you may find that you like CFLex+ better.
Finally since the sinuses are not happy, you might try adding water to the humidifier and start with a very low humidifier setting, say 1 or 2, and see if just a bit of added moisture makes your sinuses more happy.
By the way, I'm in the middle of a similar trial with a Resmed AirCurve 10 VAuto to see if I can figure out settings that give me at least as good of results as I get from my PR DreamStation BiPAP Auto. My nose is also feeling dried out. The difference is that I always used the humidifier at its maximum setting on the DreamStation to keep my nose happy, and even with the AirCurve's humidifier level maxed out, the nose it not quite happy.

Be mindful how you put your sd card back in there. It’s easily seated incorrectly and won’t write data properly. When you put it in look for a flashing blue light there and check the display to be safe and sure you don’t see SD card error.
anecdotal but easy enough if you keep your eyes open. Thankfully I am not in a superglued to the data/sd phase anymore so missing a day of data here and there hasn’t been terrible.
