Recall replacement DreamStation 2 for DreamStation 1

Post by SBarrett » Thu Nov 03, 2022 8:34 am

NEED HELP!
DreamStation 1: 5-year-used recalled (14 cm H20/ramp 5)
DreamStation 2: Recall replacement, new unit arrived 10/1/2022.
Apnea 31
Still mostly in box. I cannot use. Sleep apnea engineer I’m not. My 80-year-old hands/fingers are severely arthritic. I want a simple, easy to use unit. I use CPAP always, night and nap. Where do I look for help? Health insurance people? Equipment supplier? There hasn’t been a “sleep specialist” MD per se involved in more than two years (original doc retired). ENT confirms yearly that I use the machine and somehow my readings reach the insurance people. Will probably have to buy replacement out of pocket. Hopefully, health insurance will continue to pay for supplies. I will be in your debt for suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

P.S. It's my understanding the new machine is set to 14/5 requirements. I guess it's not logical to think my age would have factored in for a simpler replacement.

Machine: DreamStation 2 Auto CPAP Advanced with Humidifier
Mask: ResMed AirFit N30 Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear
Humidifier: DreamStation Heated Humidifier
Additional Comments: Recall replacement: Presets: Ramp 5/14 Night 1--OK. Night 2 (1/10/23)--difficult--Ramp 5 feels very different with new setup

Why can't you use it?

If you want to verify the settings, this video explains how to check or change the pressure and other settings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-Sc_Vw74A0

Which city are you in? I know a guy who volunteers to help, but he doesn't like to drive more than 35 miles.

1) What machine have you been using recently? The recalled DreamStation 1 or a different machine?

2) Why do you think using the DreamStation 2 is going to be harder than using the DreamStation 1 was? Or is the problem that you are going to have to attach the humidifier tank to the blower unit before you can use the DreamStation 2? Or are you worried that filling the humidifier tank is going to be more tricky than it was for the DreamStation 1?

In other words, to help you help yourself, we need to have a better understanding of why you think the DreamStation 2 is going to be so much harder to use than the machine you are currently using.

I received the DS2 about 5 days ago. Not too hard to figure out. Just about one more little step to fill the tank with water every night. I am 75 years old. I think my neuropathy is traveling to my fingers now, but I can still manipulate this thing. Feels just like the DS1 at night. Why would you give up so easily?
