Encore Pro - Question about "leaks"

Post by cheesy_rice » Sat Mar 24, 2007 7:32 am

i'm wondering... if I remove my mask in the middle of the night (say to go to the bathroom or somesuch) and I do not turn off the machine... will that show up as a "leak" in my Encore Pro stats for the night?

Hey cheesy

I read somewhere in a past post where some one fired up the cpap machine to dry out the mask and hose after cleaning. Tried this one time myself before i got software, let it run about two hours. I have not done this again (only the one time) but i would imagine this would show up on my Encore report as a world record large leak ha! ha! (two hours) for this reason I never fire up my machine without having the mask on as it will show up as a large leak.

leaks

Post by Catnapper » Sat Mar 24, 2007 8:11 am

Hi shippy,

I think you can run your machine all you want while not using it with a mask if you take out the Smart Card. I may be mistaken, but the machine counts hours used and the actual compliance and details are on the card only. I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong there.

I can't answer cheesy because I turm my machine off if I take off the mask. I will often see a spike in the leak data either just as I take the mask off or when I put it on and have the machine auto-start. That leads me to believe that a leak would show. One way to find out would be to try it.

Hey catnapper

Good observation !!!! common sense says if the card ain't in there it can't read anything, so if a person wanted to use the blower to dry out the equipment, without the card obviously it would not show up on the report.
Can't say that i am going to do this though as all those extra blower hours are going to decrease the life of my machine.

uses for machine

Shippy, there was a humorous thread a while back about ways to use your machine's blower. I can't find it in the search, but people came up with some funny ones, like cleaning out the gutters of your house. If you are good with the search, you can probably find it. You might like a laugh.

I had a similar question when I first got my cpap. I suggest turning it off when you get up for your break. That way the reported leak information will be more accurate, and you certainly want to make sure you have mask leaks within reasonable limits. The break will appear as a short space in your Encore Pro details page.

If you set your machine to auto on, that's one less thing you have to remember in the middle of the night.

With the Classic Remstar, if you turn off the machine during the night, you are also turning off the humidifier. So, when you get back into bed, remember to turn the humidifier on again. That's only if you are using it as Heated, as opposed to Passover.
