Used Dreamstation

Post by kteague » Wed Jul 13, 2022 4:14 am

I know there was a recall, but just in case these things aren't all dangerous, I picked one up at a yard sale for 8 bucks. The guy said he was using it with no problems but his provider gave him a new ResMed due to the recall. Did I just throw away the 8 bucks or does anybody want it for the price of shipping?

btw, had my first bad Craiglist transaction. Guy was all communicative till he got my money then got ghost. Grrr.

The last time I shipped one it was just under $25. I will get a better idea when the person who sets up the shipping is available, probably tomorrow.

Since you're in [lawful] possession of the unit, try registering with the recall.

They might send you a refurbished one or a Dream Station 2.

I suspect that respironics will only replace units sold new by "official" DMEs.
Not even those sold by online retailers--
unless someone has information to the contrary.

I don't think that they even asked (it was a while ago). If they do ask and you know the original DME that sold it, put their name.

The serial number is attached to all the metadata they need,
including identity of the original purchaser, and seller.
No challenge for your average office computer.
I am curious if anyone other that the original DME customer has had defect resolution.
Or if anyone buying out of pocket online has had a replacement or fix.
My suspicion is that any non-DME request is sent to the back of the line.
Quietly, of course. "It must have been lost . . . "

I'm still waiting for my DreamStation 1 replacement. I'm in the "At this time, your registration has not yet been matched" zone. My DME says they don't have any information and don't know anything about this matching bull. For what it's worth, my doctor said to by a filter from the DME and continue using my machine until it is replaced. My DME that has a contract with Phillips sold me a filter for $5. The same exact filter costs $15 from my new DME that has a contract with ResMed.

Luckily I was over the 5 year mark and insurance paid for my ResMed. But Phillips still owes me a machine. I wish they would just give me the money instead.

Can you tell if the DS1 has been opened and the insulation removed?

Why would either of you want a used Dreamstation when they were recalled for having problems that could affect you?

I understand about not having money for new, but you don't want to buy health trouble however cheap!

It has nothing to do with money. But thanks for assuming I’m poor. My blood pressure was 149/99 hypertension stage 2. Current studies show a cpap can greatly effect blood pressure. The current machines under recall can be sent to Phillips to have the sound abatement foam replaced. And before you say blood pressure meds, those are simply diuretics that strip you of potassium. Which long term will not be of benefit. In the 3-6 months, as my dr stated, it would take to get a cpap. That doesn’t help solve the ticking time bomb that is my blood pressure. Phillips has stated it’s a small number percentage of their machines. So here were my options heart attack and possible death or a small percentage of adverse health problems. I made my choice 1 day of using a “death machine” dream station (bought on Craigslist) and making sure I get 4.5g of potassium and 4.5g of sodium. My blood pressure is 122/90. Perhaps in the future mind your business.

Once all the appointments and waiting 3-6 months are over I’ll send it back to Phillips to be fixed. Until then not dying is more important.

If you need a machine quickly, check your local Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace. I see machines on Marketplace all the time.
